Starting to Mend

I am still here.  Just using my energy to recuperate.  The double whammy of two hospital stays, major surgery and pneumonia have drained every bit of energy from my body.  After my last hospital stay it was everything I could do to take a shower or go to the bathroom on my own.  500 steps max per day.  I am now up to 1000-1500 steps a day but recuperation is slow going.

Sweet Buddy is there by my side every day.  Yesterday he got a haircut.  He was pretty shaggy as originally was supposed to be trimmed two weeks ago but I got out of the hospital that day instead so we delayed it.  He looks so much better with a clean shaven face.

We managed to remove all the Christmas decorations last weekend.  Normally I like to take everything down January 1 for a fresh start to the year.  I sat there looking at the decorations and they were driving me crazy as I mentally undecorated everything 20 times until I was physically able to do it, of course with hubby's help.  Thank goodness I married such a decent human being.  He is wonderful at taking care of me, cooking, cleaning, doing laundry.  He is also still running the company in between.  He is tired, I try and do what little I can to make his life easier but things are still tough in that regard.

This week I am going to try and cook supper more, that will take a lot off his plate.  The problem is I can't stand up too long without having to sit so it makes things more interesting.   Other than that I am healed up with no issues there.  Eating is another game altogether, I have zero interest in food and that is highly unusual for someone who always had a very healthy appetite.  I also have pain after eating, a sign I likely will need pancreatic enzymes soon.  Talking to Drs this week about it.

We are supposed to get a dump of snow this weekend and the coming days.  That sucks, hubby really doesn't need any more work shoveling snow as I can no longer help him as I normally do.  I hope it doesn't snow too much.  Other than that things are quiet.  I haven't left the house since about the 10th of December for anything other than going to the hospital.  Mom is in our "bubble" so allowed to visit and she comes over about twice a week.  Hubby takes her on all her errands as required.

I am very thankful for the outcome of the election (trolls f*ckoff - don't bother commenting) so someone sane can actually try and assist steering the USA through the complete hell of the pandemic and that Mr insane no longer has access to the nuclear codes to start a war.

That's all I've got.  Thanks for all your well wishes.  I don't have as much energy so won't post as much.  I haven't been commenting on blogs but have been reading them, I don't have much to say right now.  Take care and stay safe everyone.

  1. You poor thing, you've been through the ringer haven't you. And I agree, your husband sounds like a real trooper - I'm so glad he's there for you. I suppose it's going to take quite some time to get your energy anywhere near back to where it was before but time is what you have right now, so take it and give your body and soul time to heal. Sending you big hugs from across the pond. Anna

  2. I wish you were closer - I would drop off dinner for you & your husband. It sounds like he has a tremendous amount on his plate, but helping you get well is the first & most important priority.

It's so nice to hear from you. Sending you good thoughts on a continued recovery!

    1. Aw, thank you. He enjoys cooking thankfully and we've stocked up on some easy meals. I did manage to cook twice in the last few days. Once was a tuna melt which takes 10 minutes and cleanup is quick - both of us like it which was nice

  3. Wonderful to have Buddy close by - and your dear Hubby and your Mom. Your brain is planning and now you body is letting you do a bit more every day - I am so very, very happy you are on the recovering part of healing. I am also very relieved that the new leaders next to us are in place and working so hard.
Hugs and Love and thank you for writing today.

    1. Not having energy is the toughest part of all of this. I want to do way more than the body is allowing but this week I have slowly increased my steps - yesterday I did 1800 which is way more than last week so slowly but surely. Thanks Joy!

    1. Thank you - it is super tough to take it easy when I was previously a very active independent person, thankfully the man I married is very understanding and seriously capable

  6. I'm glad to hear you're on the mend. I'm hoping your energy levels will increase once things get settled with your appetite.

We're into the deep freeze next week and I'm tired of snow. Maybe there is a couple of youngsters in your neighbourhood that might be willing to shovel - for a price, of course.

    Take care, stay well.

    1. Fortunately we barely got any snow this time, a quick shovel yesterday and hubby was done as it ended up being a lot warmer. Yes, bloody hell you guys have some cold weather!

  7. Take your time. Mending fully should be your main concern right now.

We have been getting snow today and probably tomorrow as well. Nice to stay snuggled up in at home.

    God bless.

  8. Buddy is a fashion plate! So glad you've got your two guys there to give you love. I know the recovery from this is slow-going, but it sounds like you're making good progress. My brother-in-law had most of his pancreas removed and experienced problems for a while after eating. It took some months to get adjusted, but he's got the right enzymes and meds and you'd never know he even has a problem. Sending hugs!

    1. I have an appointment with the nutritionist Feb 11 but enzymes won't happen until at least then. I am trying to manage the issues with Kaopectate and a prescribed med I am on. I am slowly getting a bit of an appetite back but so glad to hear about your brother in law. I love food normally so looking forward to better days

  9. So good to hear from you. That photo of buddy is so precious! That face! Those adoring eyes! Your hubby is precious also, taking care of you, your mom and the business as well. Hopefully you will be able to go on a nice vacation in some warm and sunny place this summer. Meanwhile, you all are in my thoughts.

    1. We are planning on renting a house on the ocean this summer if allowed to travel (right now they are asking everyone not to) with Buddy. Just to sit and watch the water and sunsets, that's all we want

  10. Jon's just been standing behind my shoulder telling me how cute Buddy is!
You've had it so hard and like Hawaii Planner, I wish you were closer so we could deliver some food to you and make life a little easier.
You're doing really well with the steps. I hope the doctor can do something about your diminished appetite.
I think of you all the time and send you all the love I can. xxxx

    1. Thank you Vix. Each day I get a tiny bit better. My steps are up to 1800 a day as of yesterday. I try to not overdo it though as just pay for it the next day. I am forcing myself to eat - I can't get better if I don't eat, can I?

  11. I am so happy to hear about your recovery. It may be slow but, pneumonia is a monster energy drainer on top of that surgery. Buddy is such a good boy to keep you company and help with your recovery. If you want to cook more but can't stand up for long, you may want to cook easy dishes where you throw everything together and cook in one pot. I usually cook a few pieces of chicken half way thru and then add potatoes, onions, sweet peppers, a few slices of tomatoes with a couple of glasses of water and some tomato sauce, put the lid on and let it simmer on stove top till everything cooks well. You can throw all sorts of meat and veggies together like that. It is a whole meal. You do not need anything else. You can prepare the veggies while sitting down. I love one pot meals and they are so easy.

  12. So glad to hear you're back commenting. We've (I've) missed you. Try making extra-big servings; I'm guessing Husband won't care if he eats the same thing 2 or 3 times in a week -- as long as he's not cooking! Rest up and get better.

  13. Lovely to hear from you. It has been a difficult time for you. Hopefully with each coming day you will have a tiny bit more energy. As they say in Spanish poco a poco. If you really aren't hungry at least force yourself to eat protein. Your body needs that fuel to heal itself. good luck with the medical appointment.

    1. Thanks Contessa, we are super conscious of our protein intake every single day. I am forcing myself - unfortunately there is a wait on the nutritionist so in the mean time we are just taking things day by day
