Thrift Therapy

In addition to the comfort crock pot stew made yesterday (which turned out great and we had it over mashed potatoes with a salad) I stopped in at the Sally-Ann between errands.  Score!  The perfect Spring jacket for travelling to Europe this Spring.  Cost?  $5.75.  I love jackets with zippers on the pockets for travelling.  April could be warm in Portugal or it could be cooler.  Amsterdam is sometimes raining that time of year so this will be just the ticket.  The hood also comes off by zipper.  The lining is silk.

Thanks for all your kind words - things will work out with my Mother-in-law.  We are not being pushed around by my Brother-in-law(*who definitely will get his one day), and we will be staying with her unless she moves before Christmas which is unlikely.  If she moves we will still be staying in her condo as she is locked into the lease for at least 90 days.

Now I am off to make a Sunday brunch of banana muffins, bacon and eggs.  More comfort food!

  2. Amsterdam was my favorite place I have ever visited. We went in Feb. many years back. Forecast said it rains everyday during that time of year, but we were there for 2 weeks and it didn't rain once. it wouldn't have mattered if it did, it was such a great city!

    1. I agree, it really doesn't matter if it rains. Our plan is just to wander, get lost on purpose, take lots of pictures, sometimes the best plan is none!

  3. The jacket is fab. It will be perfect for Europe. We are going to Calgary the first two weeks of December for an early Christmas with our kids. So far the plans are working out well and I may do it this way from now on. Hotel, car etc are cheaper too. I'm sure your MIL will be fine with you there. Even if it is more difficult than you expected, you will be able to nurture her for a few days and get up to speed on her abilities. My house is such a mess I can hardly stand the thought of adding Christmas decorations to the mix (mess). I think, however, I might feel more cheerful if I put something up.

    1. We definitely will be going early in December next year. I think we have now decided we will stay home for Christmas from here on out. The kids are older and we will encourage them to come see us if they wish for a few days around the holidays.

  5. I love it! I was searching for something like that before we went to Vegas. It gets cool at night and I didn't want to drag a bunch of sweaters with. Well I ended up dragging sweaters with because I couldn't find anything.

    1. I have been to Vegas in November - it even snowed (highly unusual) when we were there so I know exactly what you mean. I find I am cold in the summer too there as they crank the AC so high!

  6. Darling jacket, I love it, too! Perfect for layering, and you'll be easy to find in crowds - seriously! I hate it when my grandkids wear dull colors to Disneyland, I can never find them. :)

  8. That's a beautiful jacket. And what a price. I've never bought clothes at a thrift store. I always donated all my old (and really good quality) clothes and other things. I had a good friend at work who only shopped "thrift." One day, she came into work carrying the gorgeous ancient leather mailbag (a REAL mailbag) that I had dropped off at the thrift store the week before. I think I may just check out our local shops.

    1. I always find great things, although not always in my size. I have found hubby some great items too - he now thinks he can put in an order and I will just fill it :)

  9. What a yummy colour! I love hot pink :) Nothing like a little thrifting to cure what ails you. One of my favorite things to do. I'm restraining myself however until AFTER I've moved.

    1. It is really an orangish red but looks pink in certain colours. That color is one that looks good on me. I had a lot of trouble with the restraint part until after the move - the first few weeks I was in acquiring mode after we got to the Island. It has slowed now :)

  10. This is a delicious jacket at a yummy price!

I loved Portugal and the nice people and weather. Be sure to pig out on Caldo Verde and Pasteis de Nata. So sinful! LOL

Never been to Amsterdam, but to Italy quite a few times.

    1. So happy to hear you have been to portugal! I can't do red wine but hear they make awesome white too (instant headache on the red) but definitely will partake in the Pasteis de Nata!
