The Pictures

Due to the horrendous torrential rains on our trip I took very few pictures that I can share on the blog.  I took some family pics but as always, I like to respect my family's privacy so those shall remain for family eyes only.  We got one day of sunshine on our trip, our departure day.
We drove to Victoria and took the Black Ball Ferry from Victoria inner harbor to Port Angeles.  This was really painless and a nice way to cross the border.

We then travelled part of the Pacific Coast Highway to Olympia Washington where we connected to the Interstate that went on to Portland.  The second we crossed into Oregon it started raining and it didn't stop until we got home four days later.  Due to not wanting my camera to be wrecked, let me just say that I would love to do this drive some day in nice weather as it was really pretty.

This is a shot of the Vineyard where my cousin got married.  That is not fog but rain in the background.  What started out as an outside wedding saw 80 people under an overhang on the side of the building.  Just remember the next time you go to wear a cute little dress to prepare for bad weather and pack a wrap/umbrella/coat.  Lots of people were a little chilly.

We then moved indoors for the reception, which initially saw a few tables under heaters outdoors as well.  Due to the rain they managed to fit all the tables inside but with no space to move between tables.  The Wedding cake was fantastically decorated like the Polynesian Tattoos that my cousin is so famous for.  Did I mention he is a Tattoo artist?  I say artist as he also does paintings and installation art, even having designed a gate for the City of Portland.  Those cupcakes were absolutely yummy.

Instead of flowers on the tables there were succulents, candles, and lavender.  It was very pretty.  As gifts to their guests the Bride and Groom gave away small bottles of olive oil, made on the premises as in conjunction with being a Vineyard they also have a large area of Olive Trees.

I was really hoping for a more photogenic trip but the weather did not co-operate.  It was still a lovely wedding and so nice to see my family.   We were very fortunate to not be re-routed in our travels as there was a section of the Pacific Coastal highway where one lane had been covered by a mudslide.

It was nice to go away but is is also very nice to be home now.  Have a nice weekend everyone!

  1. What a beautiful and unique wedding cake! Those pecan cupcakes look incredible! Too bad it rained the whole time during your trip. You'll have to plan a do-over trip someday. I hope the newlyweds went somewhere dry on their honeymoon.

    1. The cake was very cool, my cousin designed it and the cake decorating place copied it. They went to Hawaii on the honeymoon as he has friends there and that is where he learned to be a Polynesian tattoo artist. I am sure they got rain but they also got sunshine!

    1. I really liked the scenery, so much so that I would like to drive further down the Pacific Coastal highway all the way to California one day. So many neat towns and places to stop.

    1. It was a very stressful time for the bridge for sure but my cousin, her new husband, was very calming for her. They got married in the end and that is all that matters.

    1. Fun was definitely had despite the rain, we expect rain living in the Pacific Northwest but nothing like this. I didn't realize we got the tail end of typhoons here but we do. Cheers!
