Great Weekend

Royal Canadian Air Force Snowbirds performing at the Comox Airshow
Just a quick post.  I am trying to recuperate from a very busy several days of work, visit from Mom and the Airshow yesterday which was really fun.

After a very warm and sunny summer, it finally rained for two days.  Saturday, day of the airshow threatened to be a dreary wet day, with the forecast calling for rain.  Nature co-operated with the Airshow however, as clouds and rain hugged the mountains all around but the sky over the airport was mostly sunny with no rain at all.  The Airshow was jam-packed with entertainment and closed out with the Snowbirds.

In other news - I now am the owner of an iphone.  Hubby insisted we have a second company phone for me so now I own an iphone 4S, my very first smart phone.  I have never actually owned any apple products, no ipods for me although I have wanted an ipod/iphone for a while.  So today will be spent learning more about it, but after using his a fair amount I already know how to take pictures, and the above picture was one of the first taken with my new phone.  Yes, it costs more than my ancient five year old LG phone but it has way more bells and whistles.  Old phone?  $46 per month (it costs a freakish amount in Canada to have a cell phone, even with no contract).  New phone?  $70 per month with data package.  We have a shared package however as it is a company phone so the Company also absorbs the expense.  Did I really need it? No, but as I represent the company as well as him, I guess we can justify it.

I promptly downloaded (yes, I know, more expense!) my favorite album from Tegan and Sara - I have embedded my favorite song in case you haven't heard of this Identical Twin Duo from Canada.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend-Cheers!

  1. Congrats on your new phone! I got my very first smart phone not long ago. I call it my grown up phone! Would you believe I had it for 2 weeks before I figured out how to turn it OFF?!

    1. Fortunately hubby has had the same phone model for over a year so he is all happy to show me how to use it properly lol. I feel so grown up now too! And my stepkids no longer make fun of me for the fact that I had a dumb phone.

  2. We used to love going to the airshow back in PA, but they stopped having it for some reason. I've heard that due to budget cuts, there aren't going to be any more airshows anywhere in the US. It's too bad. They're such a thrill. Great photo!

    1. Due to the stoppage of US Airshows due to budget cuts we actually were fortunate to have several private US pilots flying in the airshow - it really was very good - they had a bunch of antique planes from a plane club in the State of Washington come as we are so close to them. It was really quite nice to have a showing of my two favorite countries airplanes and pilots

  3. I just got a phone for emergencies, nothing fancy (because I'd get confused)but it makes me feel safer.
Air displays always make me teary,I have no idea why (great uncle was a stunt pilot but I never saw him) and when they do 'missing man' formation I'm a sobbing wreck!

    1. My uncle was a in the US airforce and died before I was born - his parachute didn't open when he was practicing for an airshow. I totally understand what you mean, I got a lump in my through seeing other parachutists at the show.

  4. We used to live just a few miles from Dayton International Airport so we enjoyed the airshow every year, from our backyard on the days we didn't go and rehearsals prior to the show by the Blue Angels and other teams. I love your photo!

    1. I haven't been to an airshow in about fifteen years but they had been talking about this for the past year and so we made sure to get tickets (for hubby it was mandatory we go). It was a great day and I am so glad we didn't miss it. Cheers!

  5. Thanks for the tunes! We listened to it in our youth hostel room :)

I love air shows, haven't seen one for years. Loved seeing the UK 'red arrows' fly over Buckingham Palace when William married Kate.

We have an air museum in the next county to us and so sometimes a spitfire or the last Lancaster Bomber will fly over. Now that is a treat!
