Success

Just a quick update.  After raining every day almost all day for many days in a row and all morning before hubby's intended final visit to his Mom who has Alzheimers and is in a care home in Alberta, the skies quit pouring and he and his brother had a very peaceful nice visit with their Mom.  The home had asked them to come in fear that due to Covid and the fact that she is declining they would not get another chance to see her after this due to no inside visits being permitted.  She was very agitated as they were wheeling her into the courtyard for the visit.  As soon as they started talking to her she quieted and just sat there peacefully for the entire hour.  It was what everyone needed and wanted.  Hubby is so very glad he made the trip and the weather finally cooperated so the visit could take place as if it was raining it would have been cancelled and he would have had to extend his stay or not visit at all.

Hubby also managed a social distancing visit with the 3 kids and my stepdaughter's boyfriend in a park.  It also refrained from raining so they got takeout and placed 4 of our folding chairs (we thought ahead) around a picnic table.  One of them sat there and the rest sat around with appropriate distance.  They took a photo to document how weird the family visit was, but you do what you have to and they all sat outside for 2 hours visiting.  It was chilly but they all came prepared.

He has just hit the road for the 2 day trip home.  Now I am off to do a bunch of things today to allow for him/us to isolate for 2 weeks, not required currently but a good idea to keep Mom and others safe from his travels.  Unfortunately, it appears that almost no one in Alberta is wearing masks.  I fear what is happening in the USA will happen here again as a result.  It does seem on the Island at least, more people wear masks inside stores on a consistent basis.  At least we do and I am always happy to see when others are as well.

The shot above?  That is Buddy chowing down on a pea I gave him, one of his favorite treats.  It looks like our peas are ready for eating finally!

Take care everyone.  Stay safe.  Happy Canada Day and Happy 4th of July to our American friends.  Cheers!

    1. Yes, sometimes the stars align but right up until noon that day (visit 2pm) it wasn't looking good. I am so thankful he got his final visitation

  2. It's wonderful to hear that the weather cooperated and your husband and family were able to have a good visit.

Perhaps the pea makes for the bee sting? Funny that he enjoys the vegetable, but I'm sure it's good for him.

Safe travels to your husband. Your idea for him to quarantine is a good one, as many of the cases here in Saskatchewan are the result of time spent in Alberta. Take care and stay well.

    1. Friends found out he was there (he tried to tell no one) and wanted him to come over. They had just posted a gigantic backyard Grad celebration for their daughter and her friends the day before. He said he was too tired and begged off which was true - but he also didn't want to risk being around them after that celebration. They just don't seem to get it. Our kids know how serious we take it and by that I hope they take it as seriously.

  3. I'm so glad your hubs' visit has gone so well with his mom. The last visit is very distressing but if it can go well it gives some relief!

    1. Yes, he sounded upbeat after the visit, relieved he got to see her and it went well. It made the whole trip so worthwhile

  4. I'm glad for him that the trip worked out as well as he oculd have planned. Safe traels homle My daughter scheduled a BANF trip for mid August, though totally refundable/can cancell if travel restrictions are still in place. I can't imagine the US getting its act together by then to have Canada open borders for non-family, non essential travel.

    1. Yes, I highly doubt the border will be open by mid August. Canada has much better control over Covid currently but really that could change. People here are pretty adamant about keeping Americans out right now. Some are sneaking in saying they are driving to Alaska to their home or for work then taking detours. They've issued tickets to at least 10 who've done that with big fines. If the border is open it is likely a mandatory 14 day quarantine would be in place as is currently (my friend came back from Dubai last week where she lives most of the time and is in true Quarantine where the RCMP call you to make sure you are observing it properly) so would make it near impossible for her trip to happen. Sorry to break that news to you

  5. Thanks for explaining the picture. I was guessing Buddy, but wasn't sure about what was happening. Glad your husband's trip worked out with both a visit to his mother and your other family members. Is your mother prepared to do things on her own while you are isolating for two weeks? Can she get out to shop on her own, or have you stocked her up for the duration? I did that with my Mom while Wayne and I would be in Powell River for about two weeks at a time. - Margy

    1. We have both stocked her up and she can walk to the store if need be. I am also planning on doing a grocery order pickup that I can place by her door (not technically isolating = but no humans come within 10 feet of you as you pop the trunk and they put the groceries right in). We've known for a week this would happen, I just want to keep her safe. No sense taking unnecessary chances. In a true emergency I would still go to her in my mask.

  6. I am so glad your husband got the chance for a last visit with his Mom. I just wish I had known when Mom went to the hospital and we were locked out of seeing her ever again, that it would be the last time I saw her. He is lucky he had the chance to say all the things he wanted to say.

  7. That's a smashing photo.
I'm glad your husband saw his mum at peace. I've been there and know how painful Alzheimer's is. xxx

  8. So good your husband had some nice visits. I pray he will get to see his mother again and no distancing. We all need to wear masks till there's a vaccine found. Ted and I wear ours. Wiping things down all the time and washing our hands every time we step out and back in this house. Plus numerous times thru the day. Hope you hubby gets home soon and safely. Blessings to you honey, xoxo, Susie

  10. it makes me happy he got to see her one last time and that the visit was good and made him happy. I did not get to see my mother before her death. Things sound like they are going well and you have planned for your mother's well-being. I cannot imagine people not caring about other's and staying put or wearing a mask. But, I live in the US and we have a leader who does not care.

    1. Yes, I am so sorry for what is happening in the USA. That election can't come soon enough, a real leader needs to be in charge there.

  11. A good memory for your husband and brother in law. So glad it worked out. My family in Calgary are wearing masks and getting frustrated by others choosing to go mask free. If only people were as thoughtful as you.

    1. I am glad to hear about your family. I was happy to see my stepson brang one even to be outside in the park (he took it off though as was safe to do so) for his dad's sake. None of our friends are, they keep posting big grad bbq pictures for their kids and their friends kids, scary times.

  12. So very very happy that your husband got that special time with his Mom. It was worth all of his efforts. Bonus visit with the kids thanks to all of your prep and planning for their picnic. Gosh even the lawn chairs. You are amazing. Only one more sleep until your reunion :)

    1. Yes, he was so glad he went. He's exhausted but we have 2 days to get everything done before we leave again for the funeral. It can't be helped.

  13. I am so glad that the visit happened. I am sure he will now feel so much better that he got to see her even for so short a time.

The people in my city don't wear masks very much either. I wear mine and so does Harvey. I noticed that people in Regina (a much bigger center) do wear them a great deal more.

    God bless.

  14. Our neighbour just came back from Edmonton after two weeks of visiting kids and grandkids helping then pack up for their move and is not doing any self isolation or wearing a mask upon return. We were shocked. She is also a essential medical worker. Good news about your hubby's trip. Cheers
