Freebie, Salvage sale, Thrift Find & A Win!

Freebie this week - it came unrequested just for being on the P&G mailing list! Hubby loves these razors.

I currently work for an insurance company. A few times a year they hold an employee only salvage sale. Usually they have things like written off vehicles and leather jackets but this time they had a few household items. As I was trying not to buy anything as we are moving I did not go to the first round but was enticed to go when they dropped the prices as everything had to be sold. I got the men's hair paste for $1 each and the watches for $2 each. They need batteries but look to be unused. I don't wear watches myself so bought one for thrifty hubby and one for my Mom.

I picked up this cute little guy for .99 last week when I went thrifting with a friend. Originally I was going to put fudge in him but am holding him out for caramel popcorn twists (from the recipe off the back of the package of popcorn twists) as tried some at work and LOVED it! I plan on making some this week for the kids and my nephew.

In addition to getting a raise (4%) this week at work I got some more good news - I won another contest! Very surprising as I have not entered very many at all this year. It just shows even if you have little time for contests if you stick to one entrant per person contests you still have great odds of winning. What did I win? A three night summer package at Fairmont Whistler, tram passes, and some meals. Estimated retail value $1800 Yippee! This is a couple of hour drive from our new home in British Columbia so am hoping to book in August for my 43rd Birthday. Very welcome news!

A New Win! And a Freebie Too!

courtesy Graphics Fairy

This week I received a couple of great items in the mail:
$50 Gift Certificate for Winners Fashion for Less Contest online instant win. I won this about two months ago but as with all wins do not believe it until I see it so waited on sharing this until now. This gift card will be saved for next year when we are taking time off. I have not been entering many contests lately but each time you win something big or small it motivates you to start entering again.

Freebie this week:
Travel size sample of Fresh Infusions Lady Speed Stick plus $1 off coupon

Finally, a peek at how I decorate our bedroom window every year with lights. Remember this ikea light wreath that was rescued from being thrown out last year after one whole string died(original post here)? I restrung the wreath and when the light is on you cannot tell. No point in throwing it out - still one of my favorites. I have done very little Christmas decorating yet (usually almost done by now) as this week has been busy with property inspections, legal papers, couriering deposits and making sure the purchase of our new home goes through smoothly. Today I actually went shopping in real stores (non-thrift stores) for some Christmas gifts and the line ups were crazy already!

Geese, Speeding Tickets, Freebies & A Win!

Today is a complete day of high and lows.

Lows because my dear husband, who is an awfully good husband 99% of the time got another speeding ticket by mail today...Good wife mantra: silence is golden.

High because finally the snow is melting quickly and the Canadian Geese are migrating back to have their babies on the ponds behind our house. I caught a great picture of a male goose trying to catch a girl goose's attention today sitting on our neighbor's roof. I did not realize webbed feet can land on asphalt shingle roofs (kind of like Rudolph but more feathers and noise) until moving here. The geese are all paired up staking out their claim two hundred feet apart from the next pair. The second photo is to give context at how hearty these birds are (or optimistic) as they seem to "hatch" the ponds waiting for the ice to clear. When the first set of geese landed two weeks ago there was no open water nor any food. I took some old bread out to them to tide them over until the big thaw.

High because after opening "our" speeding ticket in the mail (my name is on registration too so comes in my name along with his) I listened to our voicemail messages and have apparently my first win of 2011! A mirror valued at $299 (click this link only if you want to see the prize from Finess Home Furnishings)! I will post pictures once I have claimed my prize! I really have not been entering contests for the last two months, this must have been one I entered a few months ago.

More freebies in the mail and with the newspaper this week:
Kelloggs Fibre Plus cereal sample
Dove Men Care free shampoo/conditioner sample

Two tops at Goodwill $12.98 total spent

and not pictured, a Spring Red Jacket purchased last weekend $70 - yes, something new! But, at 30% off of course. I have been searching for a Spring Jacket for months at Goodwill and finally gave in and splurged.

Happy Bargain Hunting Everyone!
