Quiet Sunday

We had a couple of errands to run yesterday then went by the ocean.  It was supposed to be much nicer yesterday but instead ended up cold and windy with whitecaps on the ocean.  Still beautiful though.

We also stopped at 2 little free libraries near our house as hubby has run out of reading material.  He didn't think he would find anything he was interested in yet came away with 3 books - a new convert.  I put the same number of books in that we took out.

I did manage to get my front flowerbed planted yesterday morning before the wind picked up.  No pictures, will wait a few days to see if the plants take properly before showing it.  I planted some flowers I've never grown before so it will be wait and see.  This year one can't be too picky on anything, you buy what you can afford and what you see rather than going to several stores.

This week our Province opened a lot of businesses that had been shut.  Dentists, although mine hasn't opened yet.  Hairdressers, although my hairdresser is not coming in for several more weeks, if every as she has a compromised immune system.  Gyms opened except none of our recreation centres are open where hubby works out and even then, I can only see gyms as gigantic petrie dishes at the best of times let alone now so he works out at home and I have absolutely no issue with the weights being in the living room.  They normally are tucked away in his office closet but since he has to use them more now they went to where we have more room.  Restaurants were permitted to open 50% capacity with appropriate table spacing and special measures although the ones we drove by seemed still quite quiet.   Buddy's groomer reopened but is so backlogged from all the cancelled appointments and the fact that she will only do 3 grooms a day in order to maintain social distancing and disinfecting that it still will be several weeks before we get to take him there.  For now, we are all fine if a bit scruffy and the dog trimmers are still being used regularly.

Weights in living room and my growing station which will be put away this week
We have had no cases on Vancouver Island for about 10 days, well we did have one but technically it wasn't here, a worker who got Covid in Alberta and was treated there but lives here apparently gets his case assigned here.  All of BC only had 10 cases yesterday.  Things are safe for now, but as we are a high tourism area, as soon as Provincial borders loosen things are bound to change.  We are still wearing masks in stores, though most aren't.  Our Canadian Costcos are now requesting people wear masks in store which I like, although they haven't made it mandatory.

Today is soup day, chicken veggie soup with salsa and cayenne pepper and homemade biscuits.  This week we have very few business appointments so hubby will help me in a push to complete the areas we need to finish painting. These are the complicated ones such as the tray ceiling in our living room which require me to be on a ladder doing the painting.

Happy Sunday people!

  1. A good and safe week. Going out even to the two small stores that take safety for all as their rule still makes me somewhat tense, shop and leave asap.
    Happy Sunday.

    1. I feel like you do. Hubby wanted to go to Staples which had no lineups so I waited in the truck. Next door was a Winners which had just reopened, there was a lineup of 30 people. REALLY? To buy clothes and trinkets????

  2. I went to the hairdresser on Saturday and it really felt weird getting my hair cut with a mask on. And the thought of going to a gym gives me the heebie-jeebies right now too.

    1. The hairdresser called, hubby has an appointment for 2 weeks. I am holding off. His takes 10 minutes to cut. Mine takes much longer and yes, masks are mandatory and they aren't doing any treatments. I need mine to grow out a bit before a hairdresser can fix it anyway lol :)

  3. I'm continuing to watch our neighbor states as well as our own. I've been so sneezy due to allergies, so made staying put easy. Our local grocery store seems to have patrons that abide by masks, and distance. I still don't linger, but everyone is friendly enough.

    1. I am glad for you Sam. Things get more difficult as the virus eases as people just seem to forget, I felt that yesterday at a grocery store.

  4. Nothing is better here in AL. Cases were up and then they opened. So stupid. But, we are a red state. We have done nothing we did not do during lockdown.

    1. Good plan, so sorry there are so many in the USA that are making it difficult for the rest of you. We have 2 Province where people seem to be doing the right thing and still the cases increase (Ontario and Quebec) so I guess it will just all play out, home has never been more of a safe haven than now.

  5. I suspect things will be quiet at most businesses but a line-up at Winners seems a bit much. Our Home Depot is limiting store occupancy to 50 people and I believe that includes workers...so maybe 6 customers at a time? Maybe that's the reason for the line-up.

I'm not sure I'm ready to head to a restaurant, and the take-out meals we've had have are pizza and the occasional burger.

Looking forward to seeing the photos of your flowers! I lost an impatience and a coleus thus far. Hopefully the rest hang in there.

    1. I am craving a burger. We've had one McDs a month ago when hubby lost it...and since then only a couple of special coffees and donuts. I believe it is safe, now it is more about budget, and the fact I can buy a pack of nice steaks for the price of a meal out :)

  6. Sounds like a good day despite the cool and wind. I'm thinking of setting up a little home gym on the terrace. No room anywhere in the house... and tight on the terrace, too, but I'm also concerned about returning to the gym.

    1. I think for a while working out on the terrace is a good idea. Wait and see what happens, better to be a little more safe these days. At least you can walk outside now!

  7. What lovely views of the sea whatever the weather.
I'm hoping the planting works, I'm dying to see them in bloom. Love the library idea, I've got enough completed books to do another giveaway pile this week, that should keep the neighbours happy!
I haven't got a clue how many cases there are in Walsall, it was featured on the news last week as a Coronavirus hotspot but none of us trust the figures any more. I'm staying put in my own little world! xxx

    1. And what a lovely world you and John have. The planting did take, they've lasted through 2.5 days of rain and now we have sunshine today. They need to grow in a little but it appears it will look good. Hopefully one day soon your cases in the UK will start decreasing, it will happen eventually

  8. Yes our BC weather continues to be abnormal for this time of year - just as the world remains abnormal. At least the grass is green. The wee library in your photo looks very professional, ? part of business. We have an appointment on Wednesday to get our hair cut and as you know Colin really needs his cut and styled. I am thinking of letting my hair go natural with just a few highlights which will make it easier to go longer between visits.

    1. No, there is great pride in these little free libraries but all are 100% private. They stand out front of homes so people fix them up really nicely here. Apparently there are over 100 on Vancouver Island and even more since the pandemic. Our hairdresser finally called to say she is restarting mid-June, hubby has an appointment but I will wait longer and won't be colouring it. I think the sun will do the job this summer at least until fall.

  9. Our region is now allowing vets to meet with pets and clients, so at least Teddy can get an exam. I suspect it will take weeks to get an appointment. I hope you get to a dentist soon!

The rules for re-opening here had to take into account that people in more rural areas were coming to our hospitals for care they couldn't get locally. Our counts were based on a three day rolling average too. We are slowly opening up more but I plan to remain cautious. Stay safe!

    1. I called 3 weeks ago when they were doing emergency vet only medicine but they let me know that they were going to start doing regular checkups and shots so I made an appointment then for next week. We still have to sit outside while he gets done but at least he will be all up to date. I am in much poorer shape than he is

  10. BC has done an exceptional job of keeping the coronavirus from spreading in communities. I think people are taking the reopening more seriously except in large cities. - Margy
