We are back home and back to work but our trip to Ucluelet and Tofino was very relaxing and fun. We mostly spent our times outdoors, hiking and walking on Tofino beaches. We hiked all parts of the Wild Pacific Trail in Ucluelet, one of my absolute favorite areas where these ocean shots were taken. Buddy was right along with us, never tiring. For a short dog he sure can hike, one day we did 8km and he still wanted to play at the end of the day. Quite amazing that this trail is 100% funded by donations and kept by volunteers, not part of Parks Canada - so always free to visit! We intend to make a donation towards its upkeep, so beautiful.

We ate lots of good things, all brought from home and the one night we had intended to buy a take out pizza we realized we had brought too many groceries so just ran to the store and bought some corn to go with some shrimp.
We had a fun summer. The shadows are becoming larger, the blackberries are ready to pick and I am ready for fall. My tomatoes are still producing like crazy, we took some with us, Mom picked some while I was gone and we came home to a bunch of ripe tomatoes too. Our cherry tomatoes are producing the most, and I am likely to have those right to the end of September as it doesn't get cool here usually until October.
The sealed pot for weekends away fund has been fully drained so I need to start working on it for next summer's adventures. All buying and reselling money will be added to it along with deposits from bottles and rolled change. I need to find cheap flights to Italy for Spring so plenty of fun things to plan for. I need to find a few cheap/free local adventures so we can continue to explore our beautiful island.
The smoke has cleared in our area but the Province is still on fire so I would even look forward to a solid week of rain should it come our way. How about you, are you ready for fall yet?
Yes! Ready for fall! 33 days of work left!

You deserve a break, you guys work so hard every summer
DeleteGlad you had a great trip!
ReplyDeleteI am not ready for summer to be over!
Having too much fun with your family is a good thing!
DeleteUcluelet and Tofino sounds like a PR firm!
ReplyDeleteIt does, doesn't it? That or a law firm
DeleteLove reading about your trips! Our tomatoes are all played out! Not much survives August in Texas! Glad you are still enjoying yours!
ReplyDeleteOurs usually run right until October, if they are still flowering right now which they are :)
DeleteSo glad that the three of you had a great time. I am more than ready for it to cool down here.
ReplyDeleteWhen you have a moment send me an email about Spain.
I've been trying to get your email from your blog and it just keeps pulling up the windows mail feature (we don't have windows mail, do it all online). Could you pop me one? livingrichonthecheap@gmail.com
DeleteOh that just looks so pretty and peaceful. I miss being able to go hiking and for long walks along the beach. I so wish my health would still allow me to do these things.
ReplyDeleteI am sorry to hear that Debbie, my walking sure has seemed to help the fibromyalgia. I seem to have a lot more energy these days, and certainly more stamina
DeleteHell yes come on fall! It's been so hot here for doing outdoor markets! >:P That hiking looks amazing, how beautiful! I have to make it up to that area one day.
ReplyDeleteWe had a long hot dry summer here too. You would love Vancouver Island, I bet you would feel right at home here.
DeleteOh yes I am ready for Fall! Mainly because I have hot flashes that are accerbated by the humidity.....
ReplyDeleteYour vacation looked amazing and I'm glad to see that buddy is well.
I started saving too for NYC in late October and Rome in May 2018.
so far my tomato plant has only yielded 3 tomatoes.....but on the bright side I have 3 farmers markets near my house.
Yeah, I do much better in slightly cooler temperatures. Wow, we might end up in Rome around the same time lol. My stepson is in Montreal right now for a work trip, so jealous. He extended it by 3 nights so he could see old Montreal on his own. I told him he had to have at least one smoked bagel (a friend brought me some 20 years ago and I will never forget how tasty it was!)
DeleteReady or not we are having fall weather here; it's very early and I hope it warms up a little honestly! It's 10c here at the moment warming up to 21c this afternoon. I to agree with you, however, that hiking is best done in the cooler temps. I am usually down to a T-shirt when it's around 12c - I get really hot while hiking. I really enjoyed Ucluelet and the Wild Pacific Trail was so nice to hike - it's kept in such great condition and the views are spectacular!
ReplyDeleteYes, some of the best views in Canada in my opinion. Hubby and I even have a hard time walking the dog when it gets hot, let alone hiking
DeleteThe Sunshine Coast Trail in Powell River is the same. It runs all the way from near the ferry at Saltery Bay to north of Lund. There has been some funding to help with supplies to build free use cabins along the way, but the work has all been volunteer and continues to be so for trail maintenance. - Margy
ReplyDeleteWe've never been to Powell River but I will definitely check that out when we go one day
DeleteHow gorgeous! The woodlands and the beach are absolutely stunning, no wonder you feel all relaxed and refreshed. I don't think I could manage 8km and I'm 100 bigger than Buddy!!
ReplyDeleteOur blackberries have gone mental, I've got lbs of them in the freezer this year already! xxx
Yeah, that 8 km walk took the wind out of our sails, all 3 of us were dragging ourselves back to the truck lol.
DeleteWow, I had forgotten about the sealed pot concept - but isn't it great when you use that "found money" for something so much fun. It must really feel like something for nothing. And how absolutely beautiful it is. Well done. Anna
ReplyDeleteYes, found money is best, gives me greater incentive to get rid of stuff we no longer need or use too.
