Back To Regularly Scheduled Programming


To those who read and commented on my last post, thanks for letting me vent.  One can only take so much idiocy before you have a melt-down and we all have a stake what happens in the world.   It appears many feel exactly the way I do.   Anyway, today I am sharing some additional photos from Greece.  We ate a lot of fruit there, the cherries were especially tasty.  We also had wild plums and nectarines.



So many beautiful flowers as well.


If Greece was ever wasteful it certainly is not now.  Every resource is used to it's limit including this tomato sauce can seen with growing basil in an alleyway.

 The shot below is on Santorini and is grapes for wine.  Grapes grow well but due to the elements on Santorini the vines there are wrapped in circular coils to protect the grapes from the hot sun and never-ending wind.  These are young and have yet to be coiled.  This is likely one of the only places in the world that does this.

This week is busy again, hubby flies out Saturday on a business trip to Alberta that we extended so that he can see some of the kids and visit his Mom in the facility she is in.  They moved her to a mental health facility which gives her lots of care but is not as easy to visit.  Her health continues to deteriorate and we are not sure how much longer she will hang on, Alzheimer's is such a terrible disease.

I have a list a mile long of things I have to do the week he is gone, both work and personal.  Last night I kept dreaming that I lost two fingers - I looked it up this morning and it appears that means I have anxiety over getting everything done/performing certain tasks on that list.

On the up side I have continued to do over 10,000 steps a day.  After we returned from Greece I gave myself a few days to recuperate from jet-lag and now regularly hit 10,000 to 14,000 steps a day but my weight has plateaued at 138 and I still want to lose a few pounds so am trying to increase my steps to 11,000 or more a day now.  We are still eating healthy so not sure why the plateau but it could just be my age/metabolism.  One of the ways I continue to hit my step goal is trying to do 5,000 steps by noon, nearly impossible without using the treadmill.  Fortunately when we moved here hubby bought a really good one used for $200.  I didn't step on it until this year (he did) but now use it every day.

Next week while hubby is gone I intend to eat down/out of what is left in the fridge - no groceries were purchased this week except those needed to round out a meal or non-grocery items for hubby to take on his trip.  Groceries continue to rise in price, it feels like at least 20% in the last year.  I am doing what I can to combat that.  The freezer is full and other than some fruit and veggies there are loads of groceries in the house.

I may not post for a few days trying to tick things off my list - I also intend to take full advantage of the beautiful weather we are having and take the dog to the beach.

    I love that when you are alone you are willing to eat whatever is there. When TheHub is gone I do the same thing. It is a great time for me to get rid of the smatterings of leftovers.

  3. So sorry to hear about your Mom in Law. At least your husband knows that he is visiting here even if shes doesn't know that he is there.

    Great job on the steps. I can get just over 5k by going on my morning walk but like not it is way too hot out there, 39C. Hmm you gave me an idea, we do have a gym here it the part and I could try the treadmill. Thanks for the idea.

    My hubby has to go to Vancouver for a few days of work and I can hardly wait as I have a list of things I want to do :) He needs to do some aerial photography but it is too haze at the moment.

    1. Funny how we love that part, getting organized and doing things that are difficult when two are in the house :) So many forest fires now, another sad year for that

  4. Your version of time alone sounds similar to mine - an opportunity to get things done & eat the random odds & ends! :-) Appreciated your previous post. Although I do not talk about politics on my blog, rest assured, my level of frustration matches yours.

  5. I enjoyed all your Greece experiences.
    I did not comment on your prior post but Donald Trump is still my President. I voted for him and I pray for him, his family, staff, and cabinet every day. It's your blog and you can say/vent/whatever, just as you said. In the end - I am glad that we can all still be blogging friends even when we see things so completely different.

  6. Love your Greece pics. We are having lovely weather in the UK at the moment but I still can't wait to head out to Samos lol. My blogging has died a death though just don't have time so everything goes on IG.

    1. IG is a different form of blogging, one that is faster and much easier that is for sure. I barely post there but will likely do so if I upgrade my phone, my phone camera is not the greatest

  7. I'm glad you were able to vent in your last post. Also glad to see how many other blog readers agreed with you. It gives me hope. I love the basil in the tomato sauce can. All that white stucco everywhere makes a perfect backdrop for flowers.

  8. Beautiful photos. Things always look better in that light! We had a treadmill... and a NordicTrak... and two exercise bikes. Jerry called them "laundry hampers."

    1. The only thing that gets me on the treadmill is watching netflix...it works. I can't just walk on a treadmill, would rather walk twice as far outside than on it.

  9. You are really doing well with the number of steps daily! I've been afraid to get on the scales lately! Too many treats lately. I have vowed today, however, to get back to a more healthy diet. My metabolism has really slowed down since menopause hit!

  10. I love how every spare can is utilised in Greece and planted out. I've been hunting for empty catering size oil cans for years to grow geraniums in, I should have a word with the local curry house!
    They do say that it's cutting down on calories rather than increasing exercise that leads to weight loss, I found swapping cider for gin & slimline tonic has made a massive difference. xxx

    1. I am trying to do both decrease food calories (much harder) and exercise (I find easier). Hopefully if I keep it up the excess will begin to melt off. I have been walking 4-5 miles a day every day since mid-June though, I do feel like I am healthier
