Furry Friday and Five Things

Rhododendrons in my back yard

I don't have much blogging mojo these days but wanted to let you know what's been happening:

1.  Our new windows were installed to replace defective ones by the window manufacturer.  The whole process took 1 hour to replace five windows using the existing frames.  No paperwork was involved at all - now that is a warranty!

2.  I received a rebate of $21.50 this week from Checkout 51(this isn't a referral link as they don't have a referral program) which you upload receipts for certain products and they rebate a certain amount depending on what is on their list each week.  If you live in Canada I highly recommend it.  They email you your offers for the week every Wednesday.  It should be noted that some offers have a limited number of redemptions available.  It took me 10 months to get to the level where I could cash out as only use it for things I already buy, just like how I use coupons.  This money goes directly into the Christmas 2015 fund.

3.  Buddy's eye is 95% mended.  He no longer has to wear the cone of shame for scratching his cornea.  It is quite amazing how quickly cells in his eye regenerated.  When I took him back to the vet and they put the dye in his eye to see what damage was left the area that was previously as big as my thumbnail shrunk to a few pinpricks - yay!  We felt like such bad dog parents when it happened but as with regular human kids, unless you lock them in a padded room 100% of the time sometimes sh*t happens.

4. Buddy turns 6 months old this week. We have hopefully our last big vet bill of the year looming.  Buddy is being fixed in 10 days as he has some teeth that are not falling out in time for the new teeth that are coming in behind.  That is our signal that it is time - they do the neutering, teeth and michrochipping all at the same time.  This is a vet bill I was expecting in the next month or two so have been saving for it.
Buddy age 6 months
5.  I managed to plant my herb/garden box hubby made me last year.  I have two tomato plants, a jalapeno pepper plant, chives, rosemary and cilantro.  The cilantro I started from seed 3 weeks ago.  Yesterday I planted more cilantro seed in the bare spot between the current cilantro and rosemary. Not everyone one loves cilantro, most either love it or hate it.  We happen to be a cilantro loving family.  It eventually goes to seed and when the first batch does the second batch will be ready.  I have tried growing it in pots and it always dies.  It happens to love this little area down the side of the house and did well last year.

I have been enjoying a bit of down time this week as hubby is away on business and gets back late tonight.  It is a three day weekend in Canada with Monday being Victoria day (as in Queen Victoria) so we can relax and get some yardwork done including hubby mowing the grass (I know, it's long) and me weeding and planting annual flowers in my front flower bed.  That could have been done a few weeks ago here as the weather is fine to do so but I have not had the time,   If warm enough we will be getting the kayaks out this week.  Finally some fun and non-business stuff!

That's all I've got - have a great weekend everyone!

  1. Buddy is so cute looking! So glad that his eye is clearing up nicely. That is the only thing that we didn't like about owning a pet, the vet bills! They could sure be scary to see sometimes, having said that we do miss not having a dog around.

We use Checkout 51 as well and it will take us a long time before we get to your level, seeing that we are really only in Canada for 5 months of the year and like you we only use it if it is a product that we normally buy or want.

    1. At least I know Checkout 51 pays now lol. It is worth it in the long wrong though, as every penny makes a difference. One less we have to earn.

  2. So glad Buddy recovered quickly! Happy 6 months birthday to him. Today is the one year anniversary of Zoey's adoption. I didn't have any new or interesting pet photos so I skipped my Furry Friday post this week. Glad you didn't. :-)

    1. Wow, one year with Zoey. The beginning was hard but things seem easier now for you. Same with us and Buddy, especially now that he is house trained.

  3. Save some cilantro for me...I love it!
I do Swagbucks, it takes me a while to amass points because I don't do anything other than searches, but still, I'm able to get $s to put towards DVDs books etc.

    1. On the left hand side of Swagbucks you can do the daily poll for 1 Swagbuck and NOSO (just click past all the offers) only takes about 20 seconds and you get two more. If you are bored the games give you two swagbucks for every two games to a maximum of 10 swagbucks a day. Those are just some little tricks I picked up :)

  6. We were just talking about rhododendrons. Not something that grows in this climate. So beautiful!

    1. They are pretty but when not in bloom just bushy! We were considering taking them out of my back yard there is a huge clump - but Buddy loves roaming around underneath them so have decided to keep them for now.

  7. Happy Birthday to Buddy, so happy to hear about his eye!
The herbs look fab. Some thrive in our garden but coriander and basil are hopeless, they only live indoors in a pot. xxx

    1. I tried coriander in a pot several times and it kept dying. I can't grow basil outdoors here as the bugs just love it - ate a whole plant in one day. Indoors it likes lots of moisture and I didn't water it enough so killed that one. I think I will just buy basil :)

  8. I love cilantro, too! It bolts in the heat and is oddly a cold-weather plant. An easier-to-grow one is "culantro". It tastes the same and it's heat tolerant.

    1. Never heard of culantro, will have to check it out!

  9. We have to replace one of our double pane windows, but since John got them used to start with no warranty involved. But he is going to measure and order the one damaged pane and get it installed for us. That's good for him (income) and good for us (without proper tools and know how.) - Margy

    1. He healed very fast based on the damage, even the vet was surprised. Hopefully he will stay out of trouble from here on out - fingers crossed!

  11. I have never done Checkout51, should look into. Buddy is growing like a weed. After the super warm holiday weekend, it's gone cold.

    1. They email you new offers every Wednesday - just another way to get a rebate off your shopping trips. Really easy if you have a smart phone to take a picture and upload it quickly.

  12. I am not a cilantro lover - I once ate a friend's potato salad and it seemed like it was half cilantro so it was an overload and since then I just can't eat it. I'm so glad Buddy is enjoying good health again and I hope his upcoming procedures go smoothly :)

    1. I don't think cilantro goes very well in potato salad - perhaps she was experimenting? :)
