Blue Skies Ahead

We had a lovely long weekend last weekend -  managed to relax, get our yard work done, had lots of BBQd food, and even tried out our new kayaks!  They are everything we hoped them to be and we had a great 1.5 hour paddle on Monday afternoon.  This week we have had extremely nice warm sunny days and after an extremely tough work day of being couped-up in the house we decided to take a walk with Buddy down at the Marina area last night.  I never get tired of the scenery and still absolutely love where we live.

We realized part way through our walk that we were being stalked by this crow.  He would fly and land about 10 feet behind us every few minutes.  I have no idea why, they say crows and ravens are incredibly smart and I believe he was checking Buddy out.

When I turned the tables on him and got behind him with hubby and Buddy in front, suddenly he decided it wasn't worth it to continue following us and flew off.

Relaxed Buddy
Today we are off to a nearby town, Nanaimo to get Buddy a trim as he is looking rather shaggy.  Our dog groomer is the lady we got Buddy from and his Mom and Dad are her pets.  He loves being with them and gets to have a short romp with them every time he gets groomed which is part of the reason why we continue to have her groom him rather than someone in our town.  That plus we really want to maintain that relationship as in three weeks time we go off on our holiday to Mexico and she has agreed to take care of him for that time frame.  She normally only offers grooming services but will keep her past puppies short term and charges way less than kennels (*which I don't really ever want to put him in unless it was an emergency).  It is going to be difficult to leave him as we are extremely attached but he will be in very good hands and good furry company.

I have been working, reading, enjoying the sunshine and doing lots of cooking as we are not eating out at all before our trip except for some lunch today as we will be out of town.  Last night I made a gigantic batch of chicken vegetable chowmein that had enough leftovers for dinner tonight as well as I won't feel like cooking.

This weekend I likely will start getting ready for our garage sale at Mom's condo complex next weekend as the entire complex is having a sale and will likely attract a large crowd.  We don't have that much as just had a garage sale last summer but between the two households will have enough to fill her tables up.  There were two boxes stored from the last sale with items that we felt were too valuable just to give away so we will try again at this sale.

Have a great weekend everyone!

  1. You're so lucky to have a great caregiver for Buddy while you're away. Being with other furry friends will be good for him too. In a kennel, dogs usually don't get to play with each other. Our Zoey needs to be with dogs once in a while so we take her to an indoor doggie daycare sometimes.

    1. I've investigated kennel options. If there was ever an emergency there is one other lady in town who takes one small dog at a time to stay with her and her small dog who I might consider. I would like to meet her and her dog to have a future backup option. But I trust Robin (his previous human Mom) a lot and Buddy clearly still loves seeing her. My Mom has an ancient cat who does not do well with other animals or that would be an option for us.

  2. You do live in a very beautiful area!
Crows are very intelligent...I love them. I guess the crow had never seen a 'Buddy' before.

    1. We have a lot of crows here - they compete with the gulls for seafood on the beaches.

  3. We used to go canoeing in Connecticut and that view from so low in the water is beyond compare. Jerry keeps saying to me, "They have a kayak," which is how he got me to buy a canoe. So, I'm not going to show him this post!

    1. I love all the wildlife we get to see. Especially the seals who are curious and tend to pop up right next to you without warning. We have tons of bald eagles here - we see at least 5-10 every time we go out. Herons as well plus ducks and geese. A nice break from our routine that is for sure.

  4. Our condo had a garage sale a few years back that was quite successful. We weren't in town though at the time. Our condo in the states is adamant that no sales will ever occur. Kind of stuffy down there. - Margy

    1. I love community garage sales. There is another huge condo complex right beside Mom's that has a big sale every year and they do really well. They did ask everyone in the complex what they thought before the condo board approved it though so at least 50% of the units were in favor.

    1. Our climates are very similar - except that we have rainy wet winters here on the West Coast and generally nice warm dry summers. Although too dry the last couple.

    1. I am aiming for once a week - it depends on our work load too. I find it so peaceful out on the water.

    1. It does - here we did two days of work and one day of fun. Otherwise it would have just been work work work.

    1. I know - I don't think we would go away otherwise. He is like one of our kids now.
