This Week In Livingrichonthecheap

1.  I am not feeling well, and have had a touch of the flu for three days.  I still went to work on Friday but have been laying low with a dull head ache.  I hate being sick.  It totally sucks (yes, I am an '80s girl).

2.  As of today I am fish sitting for the neighbors goldfish as she is in Europe with her Brownie Troop and her family is away for a few days.  In the past she has been our hamster sitter so it was our turn.  Later today we shall introduce the hamster to the fish.  Real exciting life we live here.

3.  We broke our "no eating out until holidays" rule on Friday night - I certainly was not up to cooking nor was hubby so Micky Ds it was.  Tasty, bad for you and relatively cheap, and all that for $17.  Oh well, now we shall try and be good again.  We did go a whole two weeks without so much as a coffee out so not too shabby. As penance last night I cooked up two huge homemade pizzas, one of which we ate for dinner and one of which we will eat for dinner tonight.

That's all I've got.  I am spending the rest of the day in bed trying to get rid this crud.  Cheers!

  1. We have settled into the Friday night out routine and it's been a nice break. If I end up back out of work that will have to stop.

Now I do hope you feel better soon. These low-level nagging miseries can drag out so I hope you shake it fast.

    1. It has been shaken, likely because overall I am in pretty good health - thanks!

  2. Oh, no! I hope you feel better soon. Never fun to be unwell. One time eating out is not unreasonable, especially because you weren't feeling well. We rarely eat out, often just once or twice a year for our anniversary and maybe a birthday. We sometimes get McD's but it's only for times when life is not workable and it's that, or nothing! I'd say maybe 4 times a year. I have friends who eat out 4 to 5 times a week. Not in our budget nor do we wish to go there. Your one time is very reasonable. Don't sweat it!

    1. We have friends who eat out like that too - hard on your bodies and the pocketbook! I don't even think they know how much money is just flying out the window when they do it either.

  3. I hardly ever eat out, but when I do it tastes so good no matter where I am. Even a cheap hamburger and chocolate milkshake can be delicious! ;)

Take care of yourself and feel better soon.

    1. I agree, I still like burgers - a decent hotdog once in a while too. Thanks!

  9. On this trip we have been eating out via the grocery store deli. We found some packaged deals for an entree plus two sides for $6. We got the tuna salad as the entree and there is more than enough to top a mixed green salad for the two of us. The kale deli salad and coleslaw sides are a bonus treat. Grocery stores have so many new things you can purchase already prepared. - Margy

    1. That is such a good idea, grocery store prices but decent food. I hope to do the same on our trip. Do you know, I have never tried kale but in Portugal one of their "dishes" is calo verde which is cale soup sometimes with cabbage and sometimes with sausages. Sounds good to me! I will have eaten kale by the end of the year!

  10. You have a hamster?? I LOVE hamsters! At one point Kazi and I had two hamsters, a guinea pig and 2 cats. But hamsters are so cute - the ones we've had have been so friendly - I'm regretting getting rid of the cages...maybe in PEI. A guard hamster hee hee! I think I have a fever too!

    1. Hamsters are awesome, especially our most recent one. The only bad thing is they don't live that long. 3 years maximum. So bloody cute though and really portable. You might consider looking on craigslist as hammy cages are really cheap, I found our first one at a garage sale for $2 but then hubby went crazy and we now have two with tubes together for one hamster. He bought those larger ones off craigslist for very little money.

    1. Not surprisingly I still managed to get a bunch of work done for our company - in my jammies in bed. Thank goodness for laptops as this stuff had to be dealt with. All better now, thanks!
