So this is the cute little vase that I bought at a thrift store on Monday - a whopping $1.55 for a hand painted made in Thailand vase. It has scenes on all sides. The flowers are from my flower bed - if you look closely you will see bug bite marks on some of the flowers. I have chosen to ignore them rather than invest in expensive and bad for the environment pesticides.
So, this week has been a big week in our household. Yes, I broke the diet and ate a doughnut. Why, you ask? Because, they were at work and I was the newbie. What? Well, I got a job and am three days into it. I work 20 hours a week from 9 am to 1 pm Monday through Friday, closed weekends and statutory holidays. You see, while working for hubby is great, and something that will continue, now that business is functioning and all set up there was not as much work for me, and I was lacking in the talking to other humans department. I have always worked, so waited until I found something that would use some of my past skills and suit our new lifestyle. This fits. If hubby needs some administration done he just waits until afternoon. I started on Wednesday, just dreading my first day like a little kid scared to go to Kindergarden. I survived that shift but was reserving judgement. Today, I came home after three shifts, and I feel great about accepting this position. The people are nice, the atmosphere relaxed and friendly and I have wonderful hours. Will it always be this way? Frankly, no, everyone can have crappy days at work. The upside is if it gets terrible I will just quit as we now have no mortgage and the financial fortitude for me to do so. I hope things work out the way they seem to be as I am really excited!
What will this mean? A little more wiggle room in our budgets for fun. Yippee! And the doughnut was a one off - celebratory if you will. I got a sugar rush and it made me dizzy. No more doughnuts for me!
What a wonderful position to be in! Those hours are perfect!
ReplyDeleteYes, I feel so fortunate to have found something that works with our schedule. Fingers crossed it is as much as it seems to be.
DeleteSounds wonderful. As far as the doughnut, live and learn! Keep up the good work.
ReplyDeleteThe diet has been much harder this month and a bit of backpedaling has occurred but back on the bandwagon
DeleteCongratulations on your new position. I think when you are working because you want to and/or there is a goal in the process, then you tend to enjoy and make it work instead of dreading the experience because you have to be there. I could quit tomorrow and we'd be absolutely fine but love what I do and the bonus is still that they pay me. Seriously, I used to do this work as a volunteer and now get paid, so the appeal for me is the passion.
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed your donut. You deserved the treat!!
It sounds like you have a great job, one that you take pride in. Very difficult type of work but so fulfilling!
Delete20 hours a week is just about right. That's what I'm looking for too. Pretty flowers. Love that color!
ReplyDeleteMost places want you to work more hours than that part-time here but fortunately they didn't think they could afford me full-time so I suggested part-time 20 hours a week and they liked the idea. Full-time would have been way too much, thank goodness it worked out the way it did.
DeleteThose hours are great and human interaction is very important. I was at home for nearly 3 years and I craved it, my mind was going to mush, hihihi!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your new job :)
So nice to meet some decent people at the new workplace. Some of my closest friends were met on the job
DeleteHi CC,
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful surprise! Excellent hours and time for the business. And my favourite part (this won't surprise you)-more money for fun!
Congratulations. See that doughnut as a symbol of your new life :)
What a pretty vase. A nice find.
Sft x
I never tuck away money, I am pretty sure it was set aside to pay a bill that got paid already. Nice surprise though
DeleteI adore the vase you found and the flowers look beautiful in it. Congratulations on the new job! I hope you love it all the time.. You're in a wonderful financial position and your hours are great..
ReplyDeleteI feel very fortunate..but spent a lot of years struggling too. There is an end to it you see!
DeleteIt is so impressive that you can work if you want to. You have set such a wonderful example for everyone to follow.
ReplyDeleteI was hoping to relieve a little pressure from hubby and his new company - pretty stressful when there is no outside source of income in a household!
