Summer Life

Large Starfish found at Campbell River Pier
I just got back from a quick overnight trip to Mom's.  She still has not sold her mobile home although there have been some interested parties.  The downsize continues, as she seems to do better with purging and packing when I am there to haul the excess off her hands.  Things that she was unwilling to part with two months ago she now seems to be letting to of.  Through my trips to her house and her trips to my house we have taken at least 30 boxes of stuff to her new home.  She is hiring professional movers for the furniture but the less time it takes them, the cheaper it will be for her.  If we were younger and stronger we would move her but without the kids here, I am afraid one of us would get hurt so it is worth the money to hire someone to do the heavy lifting.  When we moved the kids helped us load and we hired two guys to help unload our self-rented moving truck.

On my way back I stopped in at three thrift stores but found only one thing which I will share in my next post.  When I got home hubby had made some homemade ham, veggie and pasta soup using only items from the fridge, freezer and pantry.  This was a very nice surprise as we had just been discussing how he is a great cook but never cooks much anymore.  It was so nice to not have to cook after the drive back.  He is good husband.

Another sunny day here on the Island today, not too hot but warm enough to enjoy.  You can pretty much guarantee great weather here the months of July, August and September.  We plan on going to the beach later today after some Company work is completed.  Cheers!

  1. I know what you mean about it getting easier to let go of things the more you pack to move. In the beginning, you want to take everything. Once you see how much there is you never use, it seems easier somehow. My latest thrift store fine was a set of four glass canisters with screw top lids for $4. We have a new thrift store in town. They are a bit more expensive than the Hospital Auxiliary Economy Shop because they have to pay for help, but they have a bigger selection. - Margy

    1. Wow, great deal on the canisters. One of these days we will take the ferry over and Check out Powell River as I have never been there and the beach we go to is right next to the ferry terminal. Cheers!

  2. We will never move ourselves again! Paying for someone to do it makes so much more sense.

    1. Yes, too old and too crotchety. We only did it from Alberta to BC as saved several thousand by doing so and were able to hire guys to help unload or we would have been unable to do it.

  3. What a beautiful starfish! And how lovely that you have guaranteed sun over the summer!

Glad you went to see your Mum and things are gradually getting sorted out for her. How lovely it will be when she finally makes the move!

Looking forward to hearing about your thrift store find.
