Doubled My Money!

Remember this?  I bought it last year at a yard sale for $20 thinking it would work for a large empty wall in our home.  It is an original oil, likely from the 1950's or 1960's and was part of a California Art Company that offered art to the masses.  Hubby didn't love it quite as much as I did so it has been residing in our Music Room/guest room ever since.  I listed it yesterday for $40 on Craigslist and it sold today for full price!
I had tried selling it last Fall but no takers so was happy it has now exited the building.  $20 will go into the travel fund and $20 will go into the sealed pot Christmas 2013 fund.

In other news, my trusty car that NEVER breaks down that we have decided to keep (for now, until we change our minds again)  must have heard that we were car shopping last week because it BROKE DOWN this week.  We paid for a tow $60 with tax(which we get $50 reimbursed from our Insurance Company for roadside assistance) and a new alternator including the part, labor and tax $383.  Oh well, in all the years we have owned it other than redoing the brakes which was regular maintenance and a muffler due to Alberta salty roads in the winter I haven't really had to spend any money on repairs.  She is back in the garage and looking really nice as hubby spent hours power polishing her so maybe she gets to stay a while.

We have been having lovely sunny weather and have spent lots of time at the beach lately, wading, watching baby crabs, and beach combing.  Happy 4th of July to all my fellow Americans (yes, I am a dual Canadian/American).  Cheers!!

  2. Getting rid of that picture for a profit must have made your hubby happy! As for your car, they all need work eventually and it's still cheaper than buying another. I hope you had a swell Canada Day -- eh!

    1. We had a nice quite Canada Day - BBQ food and a trip to the beach. Hubby wants to keep the car now - I am still on the fence. It will do for now though.

  3. I agree with Alex. I look at new cars all the time, but I'm keeping my old one because it's paid for. It's been in the shop a few times for various things (shocks, brakes, etc), and I'm on my 4th or 5th set of tires (I lost count), but it's still cheaper than a new one and it runs great.
Nice flip of the artwork! Congratulations!

    1. Thanks! I would have loved to sell it for more but really wanted to be rid of it as it is quite a large pice. The man who bought it really liked it!

  4. Congrats on doubling your money! Shouldn't a portion go into a "Shop for Profit" fund?? You do have a good eye!

    1. Ah but my shop for profit fund magically appears in the purse anytime I see a good bargain (funny how that works!)
