Good News Day

I was not expecting today to be as quite as good as it has been as yesterday received a very large bill for our old Alberta house for the alarm not being transferred to the new owners.  They sounded like nice people, the type that did what they said they were going to do but you never know with people.  $369! That was how much we owed until the end of the contract June 2014.  It has been over a month now so I was extremely worried when the bill arrived.  Instead of contacting the new owners first  I contacted the alarm company to make sure they had not activated it in the time since the statement went out.  It turns out that it was the alarm company's error, that they never credited our account when the new owners signed up.  I am SOOOO glad I called the alarm company first.  Anyhow, it is now all fixed up and we don't have to pay that money which would have been a huge pain in the tushie and pocketbook.

Then today, I went to Shoppers Drug Mart to pick up some allergy medication that was supposed to be on sale.  Apparently they changed the day of their sales cycle so the sale ended yesterday - drat!  So instead, I picked up one package of bacon on sale and will look for another sale for the medication.  At the checkout the lady in front of me bought a whole bunch of perfume for $100. She did not have  a shoppers drug mart card as found them to be a pain to keep track of - she offered me her points.  This works out to points worth $30 off a future purchase.  Woohoo! These are being saved up for use later in the year.

Finally, I have decided to get off my butt and try and lose a bit of weight.  My current weight is 150 pounds - just putting it out there.  I was 133 pounds when I met hubby 10 years ago and would love to be in the under 140 pound range again. Yesterday we went to the gym, the first time for me in about 8 years.  Hubby always been a regular once or twice a week gym goer but me - not so much.  I hated gym in school as am completely uncoordinated and have never been good at sports.  I survived the first session without too much fuss and am not too sore today so feel that this is a promising step in the right direction.  I bought a ten visit pass and we hope to go at least twice per week with walks on the beach/in the neighborhood in between.

So all in all it was a good day.  Now for a great weekend!

    1. Thanks - a bit of eating less and working out. I am not going for fast weight loss as that is the kind that generally doesn't stay off. Really hoping for long term weight loss.

  2. You did have a good day!

I dislike exercise, too. One of the things I do enjoy, though, is walks to places, like to the coffee shop to pick up some good ground coffee, to the grocery store if I just need one or two items, to the hardware store, bank, those sort of places. All of our shops are about 1 to 2 miles away. So I can get in a good walk, and take care of an errand without using the car. Plus, if it's a weekend day, I can usually talk one of my kids into joining me, then I get some one on one time with them.

Good luck with your weight loss goal.

    1. I like walking on the beach but compared to working out I only burn about 1/3 of the calories so hope to do both.

  3. I've been concerned about the new owners of my house transferring over the utilities, so I made a few phone calls to see how that works and I'm trusting that they're good people and will take care of that right away. I'm glad you contacted the alarm company first and yay for the credit!
As for exercise, I really enjoy a 2 or 3 mile walk at the end of the day with hubby. We used to run, but we just can't do that anymore. So glad you had a good day!!
Just wondering, is that Jim Carrey?

  4. We had a huge issue with utilities at the old house as our bill had been so over estimated that they owed us quite a bit of money -- then messed up transferring that to our new account. Hubby got it fixed and it was a good thing. We did not have to actually have to pay the gas company for almost a year between the huge credit and smaller costs at the new house. You do need to be vigilant!

    1. We have TOPS in Canada but I have never been one for group activities. Hubby is being really supportive so hopefully doing it together will be easier.

    1. I have been putting the weight thing off for far too long and it slowly just kept creeping up. My goals are small and I mainly hope just to get into better shape while losing at the same time. It isn't easy though!
