Groovy

So I thought I would share with you today something we picked up a month ago on our Facebook bidding site.  A proper lava lamp with the real wax in it that takes 2 hours to heat up for action.  I love it.  I love that it looks like a rocket and has little lights at the bottom.  I've taken to light therapy this fall, lots of fairy lights, candles and now this.  We turn it on every single night.  I outbid everyone else for $21.  This is not one of the cheap ones made with goodness knows what that gets cloudy after a few days.  Nor is it the kind that is instant (those appeal to most people - instant gratification).  You have to wait for the beauty and bubbles of this lamp

Yesterday instead of watching TV I had a good talk with one of my BFs from Alberta.  We even had a few laughs and it was needed by both of us.  My other BF who lives here just stopped by today to pick up all the wine I am gifting her, if nothing else she can give it away as we have no use for it and the kids are too far away to gift it to.  Buddy was so happy to see her, even managing a way to give kisses on her eyeballs as we both had our faces covered in masks.  I also gave her a whole bunch of recycled egg cartons.  Her new chickens aren't laying yet and old chickens are laying few and far between so she is not selling eggs right now - but they make excellent fire starters and she uses wood heat mostly through the winter although has a furnace too.  No sense on those going into the landfill.

I did more decorating yesterday but instead of inundating you with WAY too early Christmas posts I will save that up.  In the mean time, try and have a good day!

  1. Oh that's pretty! I've never had a lava lamp but I'm sure the light is mood enhancing.

I'm looking forward to seeing your Christmas posts. My daughter has put up her tree - she mentioned AOC's comments when I asked her about it. I think I'll wait until Remembrance Day is over, but I'm sure it will be soon here too.

    Take care!

    1. The AOC is such a wonderful woman, I truly see her running the world one day (or at least a country). So highly intelligent. I am waiting until Remembrance day is over to finish and turn on the outside lights. Now is really more preparation. This weekened we will string the lights though, a 2 person job as hubby bought them yesterday

  2. I have always loved lava lamps, I find them so amazing. I believe my oldest son has on almost exactly like yours.

    God bless.

    1. It is the 2 food kind, really quite beautiful in a rocket ship kind of way. We have silver accents all through the bedroom so it just kind of goes with everything

  3. I love that lava lamp! Good for you in outbidding everyone! It brings you JOY and that is so important! Giving all your wine away?? Mercy!

    1. Yeah, but it went to a good cause. If you must give wine away make sure it is to your friends. I have another 71 year old friend who lives on the corner and I know she makes wine from the same facility. I am gifting her 9 bottles of red - she used to be an oncology nurse and is a wonderful human being. We also gifted a full bottle of vodka to my friend who leant us his hair trimmer if I lost my hair. I just gave it back, it doesn't seem to be happening unless they change up a chemo drug and that isn't the plan

  4. THAT is a beautiful lava lamp. I didn't own one during the first go-round, although I spent many hours at my friends' place staring at them (in stoned bliss). I had one in my office in the '90s and loved it, although I would often find myself spaced out staring at it instead of working. Flashbacks?

    1. Yes, flashbacks (maybe?) but I highly recommend them for bettering your mood. Maybe your stylish apartment needs one?

    1. The modern lamps are pretty cheap and made with chemicals that cloud easy. The older and real ones are made of wax that take 2 hours to heat. Ours isn't real old, probably 15 years or so but we love it

  7. Son3 and DIL3 are supposed to be here some time in December for another protracted visit. I am going to do Christmas over the top, so I am starting next week (provided I get the house completely clean by then)
I love old lava lamps, especially the beginning blobs once the wax is softened.

    1. Yay for over the top Christmases, so glad you get a long visit with them. Ours always looks like a brain floating around until it totally melts lol

  8. They are kind of mesmerizing aren't they (lava lamps not egg cartons). Yours looks like it's sticking its tongue out!

    1. They are mesmerizing - when it first starts to heat up it looks like some weird scientist brain until fully melted

  9. What a lovely lamp-calming. I didn't do a lot of Halloween, so will just take down the jack-o-lanterns plaque and add a thanksgiving on the door, and keep all my pumpkins and scare crows through Thanksgiving. I want to go all out for Christmas as well, but need a full deep clean first.

    1. Cleaning be damned. I usually just clean the surface I am decorating then once decorated a good vacuum. It's a 2 in one!

  10. I do love a lava lamp! Some of my friends clubbed together and bought me one by Mathmos (the original inventor) for my 30th birthday which sadly didn't survive when I moved in with Jon! They're so relaxing to look at and totally enchanting. What a bargain.
Good for you passing on your wine and egg boxes to friends in need! xxx

    2. PS Just heard this morning Greece went into lockdown with curfews and limits as to where you can go.

  11. The lava lamp is so cool! I had no idea there were different varieties, or that the "real" one was made with wax?!? Wow! I agree - light therapy and anything that helps lift your mood is so important, especially during these times. I've been buying little candles from Dollar Tree and a big 3 wick one from Aldi in holiday scents to enjoy. It's a little thing, but so nice! Definitely worth the money.

    1. My favorite candles were from Pier 1 and I stocked up in January thankfully before they closed for good - sad about that. Now making my way through them, need to find another maker that has wax that burns all the way through nicely like they did

  12. Great lamp, both light therapy and mood lighting. Always special to have a conversation and even better a visit with a BF. Dogs love giving kisses and are experts at it. Giving away wine - sad but you have to do what you have to do. We used to keep our wine stores read for up to 5 years and the white up to 3 years. They age very well.

    1. Wine has mostly been given away, found another case in garage but will give that to Mom's cleaning lady who is really helping us out in this time. I left out the sulphites as they bothered me so it has to be used within a year of making :( But everyone has been receptive and it's nice to spread the cheer around.
