Things are Looking Up

We just got back from the vet's office.  Good news, Buddy's hip has remained in place.  This ordeal started Friday the 13th of September when we found out it was out.  10 days later he finally got his sling removed and we are all hoping for the best.  He has to remain on a leash at all times for the next two weeks to ensure he doesn't jump up on things but all fingers and toes crossed he is back on the road to full recovery.  He has a sore from the bandage rubbing on the inside of his leg but we have a cream for that and it should heal quickly.  He is currently camped out on top of my feet, groggy as had to have a sedative for them to remove the bandage sling and take an x-ray.

This is good news for all of us.  Hubby wants Mom and me to go on our trip to Salt Spring Island on Friday and we intend to go.  Originally he was going to go take care of her cat while we are gone but we are hiring a lady who does animal caretaking that lives in Mom's complex instead.  That way he only has to deal with Buddy.  We still have to lift him on and off the bed for two weeks but other than that he can walk.

So yeah, great news for everyone.  Tomorrow is our 14th wedding anniversary.  We had originally intended on going out to our favorite Greek restaurant.  Instead, hubby will go pick takeout from the same restaurant to be enjoyed with a bottle of our own wine.    Technically we could leave Buddy but I don't think either one of us will enjoy ourselves if we are worried about him so this is a better option.

Yes, things are definitely looking up!

    1. He's started to rebel being on the leash all the time. He is trotting around the yard dragging us all over, but he needs the exercise so we trot after him.

  6. So glad to hear that Buddy is doing so much better, it is so worrisome when something happens to them and you feel like there isn't much you can do to help. I hope he behaves himself for the next couple of weeks to let his hip heal properly.

  10. Good news! But I feel your pain. We had a border collie that would have to go on rest breaks. Teddy was really hard to do that with too. We resorted to tranquilizing her -- which only took the edge off. Lucky for you, he is a good boy, so I bet he won't make it too tough on you. Laminate floors are tough for them to get a purchase on and you could help him by putting down a path of that shelf liner/grabber stuff so he has a route to walk without skidding.

    1. They gave us tranquilizers for the first week, used a couple of days but then quit as felt bad about drugging him up. Fortunately he didn't seem to have much energy until this week so we didn't have to fight him much. He is doing ok on the laminate now, just going 1 mile an hour :)

    1. I now call it the house wine, always goood :) I tend to make the same kit over and over so I won't be disappointed. Hubby has taken a liking to it too but his red will be ready in a week or two, hopefully that will taste good as well.

  14. Happy Anniversary! And what great news!!! But be prepared that now you're going to be watching him obsessively and will catch your breath or get alarmed any time he miss-steps. That wears off after a while, but it makes you crazy at first!

    1. Yeah, it wasn't a concern until he started feeling better but he's rebelling now and I am having to watch him like a hawk :)
