Another week goes by and life is speeding by again. After our accident on October 6 there was talk of cancelling our Mom-Daughter weekend away to Victoria which was last weekend. By Wednesday we both decided that no matter what it was important for us to go rather than postpone it and potentially end up with crappy weather. Life is too short and needs to be seized, even if we weren't both back to full health. I am glad we did. The primary purpose of our weekend in Victoria was to see the Royal BC Museum's Egypt exhibit with many real ancient artifacts. It didn't disappoint!
We spent about two hours at the museum and then watched an IMAX movie about Egypt. It was well worth it and I am so glad we didn't cancel our plans. We tried to take it easy and just concentrate on the museum rather than doing a bunch of siteseeing in Victoria. I was fortunate to go to Egypt in 1995 and would love to go back as it was most amazing trip of all my travels. There are some areas of Egypt that are safe to go to (many aren't because of ISIS) and my plan is that within the next 5 years hubby and I will go as I want him to see it too. We will go on a guided tour, something I don't do in other countries but due to all the terrorist activity in the region necessary for safety.
After the museum we had a lovely early supper in a restaurant overlooking the harbour and then retired to our hotel. The next morning we had planned on visting a bucket list item for Mom - the Bateman Centre Gallery. Robert Bateman is one of the most amazing wildlife painters in the world and it was so interesting to see his sketchbooks from his teen years as well as his paintings from Africa and the Bahamas from when he was teaching there. They didn't allow any photography so there are no pictures - but it was well worth it if you like his work.

Back home....the weather is still lovely. Sunny warm autumn days which are quite unusual as the last several years we have had nothing but rain in October. This weekend we need to do some winter prep with our patio furniture and yard. I also need to attempt to do some housework. I have been cooking and sweeping no problem but due to still having a lot of pain in my chest from the seatbelt I have not felt like vaccuuming - the dust bunnies are rioting right now. I even went back to the Dr to make sure they didn't miss a sternum crack when I went to the hospital but after reviewing the xrays we are certain there is no crack (he showed me and we inspected every inch of xray) but he thinks the joint between the chest bones is highly inflamed. Only time will heal that. Once that is sorted I can go to the chiropractor for unknown number of treatments.
I admit to feeling overwhelmed now. Driving Mom was no issue before, but now that she has physio, I have Dr and Chiro, we both have a dentist appt Wednesday, our truck was supposed to get fixed today but the bumper didn't come in so now it will be fixed on Tuesday - life is just too freaking busy. Basically between our really busy day jobs (just signed 2 more clients) and all that there is not much time for much else :( It's a good thing we went ahead with our weekend away as scheduled.
Anyway, enough moping. Enjoy your Autumn everyone!
Don't work too hard!
ReplyDeleteThere will always be more work, but there won't always be more time...
This is so true!
DeleteI’m so glad y’all went ahead and took those days away together. Time is short.....and I’m so sorry about that accident! It will take a long time to recover and praise God you weren’t seriously hurt! Pace yourself. There will always be a list a mile long of things to do. You are so good at prioritizing...
ReplyDeleteI am not too worried about the house, when we get tired of looking at the dirt one of us cleans it. Our house is generally tidy so always looks clean even if it isn't. I am a master at hiding clutter.
DeleteOh what a fabulous exhibition. As a kid I use to regularly go to Birmingham's natural history museum. I loved the dinosaurs of course but the most fascinating to me was the Egyptian section. I just loved seeing the broaches the ladies wore in their hair and the other fabulous artefacts. Wow. I'm glad you went. Sorry you're not feeling too good but I'm just so glad you made it out of that crash. Take care of yourself too.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite thing at that exhibition was a stone palette in the shape of a fish which was used for mixing makeup - the Egyptians invented so bloody much!
DeleteI would love to visit Egypt. I imagine that exhibit was fascinating. Enjoy your mom as much as you can while you can! Mine has always been a little difficult, but she could also be some fun until the past few years. Today she wanted to go to the store but when we got there she had no idea what she was there to buy. Fortunately I knew
ReplyDeleteI am grateful that Mom and I get to spend so much time together - I am really trying to get quality time in as that could change any day. She could easily live to 100 though, she is so clean living and she has many relatives that have lived that long.
DeleteI'm happy you were able to still have such a wonderful time. I bet your cherish the good days. I hope you both find relief from the pain.
ReplyDeleteThanks! We are both coming along in the healing department thankfully.
DeleteI remember going to the King Tut exhibit in Los Angeles back in the 80s as I recall. Went with a group of women from work. The displays were amazing. We went window shopping on Rodeo Drive and I bought a hand carved comb for my hair. Dinner at a fancy restaurant topped off our fun day. - Margy
ReplyDeleteI was lucky enough to go into King Tut's tomb in the Valley of the Kinds - I hope to do it again some day! Do you still have the comb?
DeleteI'm so glad you and your mum took the trip. The exhibition looks wonderful, how advanced the Egyptians were and how sophisticated their lifestyle was thousands and thousands of years ago always blows my mind.
ReplyDeleteFunnily enough I saw an guided tour of Egypt advertised in a local travel agent's window this week. I'm glad they're allowing tourists to travel there, the terrible attacks devastated their tourist industry.
Please take it easy with the healing, it takes a long time. I was very silly when my trouble started working through the pain and pushing myself too far. You will get better but it takes time. xxx
I am not scared to go to Egypt, mainly because I have gone before around the time of other attacks. If you go with a group they usually have escorts everywhere, although I hate groups I really want to see it again so will do it. I hope you get some relief from your hips, bloody hell. Hopefully soon medicine will have advanced things so we don't have to hurt so much.
DeleteOh dear, I apparently missed your previous post and had to go back and catch up. I'm so sorry about your accident! Thank goodness that you were in a vehicle that was able to protect you from getting seriously hurt. Glad you were able to keep your plans with your mom to see the Egyptian exhibit. It looks like it was well worth seeing. Hope you feel better soon. Get some rest.
ReplyDeleteThanks - definitely on the mend here. Actually I am trying to ramp up activity, the Dr thinks that will help, fingers crossed!
DeleteI am surprised you were allowed to take photos in the Egyptian exhibit. But, those are marvelous artifacts.
ReplyDeleteMy wreck that totaled my car was on August 6, and I am just now suffering the worst of the pain! It has debilitating.
They allowed photos with no flash, alot of museums do these days. You certainly were hit much harder, I hope you heal up soon!
DeleteBeautiful photos. Looks like a GREAT day. So glad you allowed yourself the fun.
ReplyDeleteIt was a great day, I need to plan more fun in our lives or life just passes us by
DeleteYes, yes yes!! So glad you went to that exhibit. Egypt is on our bucket list. So precious that you are taking time for you and you Mom and creating such very special memories.
ReplyDeleteEgypt is worth it, definitely go on a tour or you will see very little. It is the one country in the world I have traveled to that I will go on a group with. My absolute favorite mind blowing trip to be sure
DeleteI don't like being overly BUSY either and it get cause some anxiety. It's been awhile since I last posted but I have no apologies - I just have too much to do! Hope your truck is repaired by now with the two of you having so many appointments! Sorry to hear your chest is still hurting from the accident - you need to be 100% to get back on track once again. I heard about the 3 6+ earthquakes you had recently and how rare that is. Crazy!
ReplyDeleteI understand the busyness anxiety, I can't stand being too busy. Our earthquake situation is the big unknown, is it a sign of bigger ones to come? Probably but I am not worrying about it.
DeleteI'm sorry to hear that you're still in a lot of pain. Perhaps a housekeeper to do the heavy work would be worth the while at this point? At least until you've recovered.
ReplyDeleteGlad you had your getaway. Like your mom, I think seeing Robert Bateman's work would be fascinating. The Egypt exhibits look very interesting as well.
Take care!
I am healing, as we work from home a housekeeper is out of the question so we will live with whatever dust bunnies we have to. Hubby is also great - he cleaned the bathrooms (his most hated) but I can do that again lol.
