Just a quick post to share some recent finds. The Owl above was purchased brand new as we went regular retail shopping this past weekend (oh my, have I lost my mind? lol) to get my Stepdaughter some much needed clothing necessities that could not be purchased at the thrift stores. I rarely buy anything for myself - just my luck to get sucked into Pier 1 Imports and I could not resist this little fuzzy guys charms. Yes, it is a Christmas ornament - $4.50 total cost - worth every penny of that on the cuteness scale and my one un-bargain of the week. That also counts as my one and only brand new purchase for Christmas Crap this year. If new to this blog see past Christmas Crap Campaign guidelines - I have lived by these rules for the past several years and saved tons. Feel free to join - the rules are pretty easy to live by and you can amend the rules to work in your household if required. Any other non-gift Christmas purchases this year will be solely from the Thrift Stores. He will be perched in the windowsill until late November when the rest of the house will be decorated for Christmas (*I really should have washed the window before taking that picture but this is real life).
Fortunately, in addition to my Mother, I now have another thrift store buddy in my stepdaughter. She found these cute boots to keep her toes warm and cozy in our wet Vancouver Island winters - $7.25.
Finally a bargain at the grocery store. While shopping yesterday for the groceries for our weekend away (self-catered of course!) I came across these yogurt which were marked half price as close to sell-by date. They will be good for at least 8-10 more days and they will all be well gone by then - $2.50 instead of $5 for 8 (only 4 shown in picture, I already ate one this morning).
Tomorrow we are running away for the weekend to a nearby island called Quadra that we visited in July (see blog post here). This time it will be much different - Fall rainy weather and a different resort but the three of us intend to have a nice relaxing weekend which will involve lots of good food, walking by the ocean, taking pictures, and visiting a local farmers market. The Sealed Pot which is for weekends away has been raided but I will still be reporting my year total at the end of November with everyone else. We finally received our refund from my online bill paying fiasco ($143 waiting since the first week of July when I paid on a closed account by accident) just yesterday so that plus the sealed pot are entirely paying for our two nights hotel, ferry cost and whatever fun we get into. Have a great weekend everyone!
The owl is too cute for words...I'll have to give him a miss...the cats would shred him on sight!
ReplyDeleteLove the boots...I'm a boots person!

Yeah, I can totally see how cats just see the owl as a "pre-dinner toy" :-}
DeleteI love those kinds of get-aways this time of year. Less people around to harsh your buzz!
ReplyDeleteQuadra Island is remote even in summer, in Fall/winter it is dead quiet. Just us and the seals - it was perfect!
DeleteGreat bargain on the boots and I love the owl - I would have him on my shelf all year round! Hope you have a great weekend xxx
ReplyDeleteHe will be very hard to put away come January 1. I might just remove the berries and leave him up all year :)
DeleteWell, next time I'm near a Pier One, I'll have to stop in. My daughter would flip out over that owl ornament! Oh the cuteness! I was just thinking about the no Christmas Crap campaign. I was thinking about putting a link on my blog like I do every year, however some of my readers are really into decorating and going all out for the holidays, so they might take offense to it.
ReplyDeleteThey had tons of cute ornaments there and I tried to go away from this one a couple of times but kept coming back to it so in the end just gave in - it rarely happens. No worries, you can quietly observe the no crap campaign - I understand!
DeleteI really do need to start shopping at thrift stores!
ReplyDeleteWe do find the best stuff there - do they have them in Spain?
DeleteI actually splurged on NEW boots this year but to be fair they were on sale for 50% off :) I envy you your weekend away...on an island no less.. and hope that some sunshine will break through and warm up your days. I rarely buy greek yogurt though I love it - just too bloody expensive! You hit the jackpot!
ReplyDeleteAnytime you can get new boots at 50% off that is a smoking deal - I would have bought them too. We got some rain and some sun and had a good relaxing time. Why oh why is Greek yogurt expensive - does anyone know?
DeleteSweet owl! Great yogurt deal. Thanks for the update! Enjoy your trip!!
ReplyDeleteThanks! We had a nice relaxing weekend.
DeleteOops forgot about the No More Christmas Crap campaign, darn it, as I have already bought 2 new things :(. Oh well, they weren't expensive and they cheered me up!
ReplyDeleteHow lovely that you have a new thrifting buddy in your stepdaughter. That's great news!
xx
You create your own rules Judy, or you can just start now if you like - I won't tell
DeleteI think he was completely worth it. It doesn't go in the Christmas category, it should go in the necessities column.
ReplyDeleteLike underwear, except better!
DeleteWe all deserve a full priced treasure once in a while. Cute owl. - Margy
ReplyDeleteI am a sucker for birds - this one broke my heart :)
