Snow!

So over the weekend we got 3 days worth of snowstorm which dropped about a foot altogether.  Hubby was so sore from shovelling the sidewalks and our driveway.  Usually I am able to help him.  Fortunately the big melt is on now and it is raining which takes it away much faster, hopefully by the end of the upcoming weekend most of it will be gone.

Buddy doesn't love the snow.  His poodle hair sticks to our wet snow like glue plus he is so low to the ground hubby had to shovel him a little path so he could do his business without freezing his junk off.  He is such a sun lover.  The second the sun came out after the storms he found the one sliver of sunlight on the carpet to sit in.
Chemo round 8 started back up yesterday.  We took this beforehand to document things - I still have a good amount of hair, hoping it holds until my 12th round is done.  I am still losing but haven't cut it except my bangs myself since August so it covers the thinness.

Other than that I am feeling pretty good.  You never have a lot of energy on chemo so I will still fight with those side effects but am pretty much recovered from pneumonia, thankfully.

I started our income tax, can't finish it until some slips come in but it is mostly done (Turbotax).  We had $6000 in medical bills so will be getting a refund.  Oddly enough, when I previously priced out Bluecross healthcare 2 years ago to cover extra hospital(semiprivate room as basic hospital is covered free)/dental/vision/prescriptions it would have worked out to $4000 a year and excluded some of hubby's preexisting conditions AND had a copay on some items so in the end I still think we are ahead of the game by paying out of pocket ourselves.  You do have to price these things out based on your own situation.

Stay safe everyone and have a good weekend!

  1. When we get that much snow sometimes I just give up and wait for spring too! It always comes eventually. Good luck with the next round of chemo!

  3. Shoveling snow is always back-breaking. Glad hubby survived it. You won’t be off the hook next year. So glad chemo has been going well. You look great and you’re doing a great job with your hair. It would be nice if it holds on, but there are great turbans I’d things change. Or maybe they still sell those Eva Gabor wigs. You could buy one and turn it into two!

    2. Years ago, a friend of ours went through chemo and was devastated when her hair started to fall out. So the three of us went wig shopping in the most exclusive department store in DC at the time. The "matron" in the wig department quickly decided to leave us alone. She had a ball trying on all the wigs, including the Eva Gabor collection. She ended up wearing turbans! Never dawned on any of us that she could have the wigs thinned and styled to suit her. That was (holy crap) 34 years ago and she's been going around with her own hair ever since. Anyway, blogger has stopped telling me my comments are being saved for approval, which is why I never know if they're getting through or not. Good to know!

  4. I've been working on our taxes, and we owe, as always. I'm hoping we'll owe slightly less than last year, although I'm waiting for one more form to come in tomorrow. Fingers crossed.

Sending good thoughts that you continue to have energy throughout your treatment!

    1. Thank you for your thoughts. We reduced salaries this year so have to pay less tax and the deductions helped. We are lucky we have zero debt and lots of assets or it would be a lot more difficult.

  5. I really think you have more snow than we have which is highly unusual. I won't complain though as winter is not yet over. We still have March to get through.

Hoping you have as easy a time as possible with your chemo.

    God bless.

  6. You are looking good. When we really need it our healthcare is amazing. Hospital care which would bankrupt a person in the USA provided for free. We are very lucky.

    1. You are so right Susan, and we have also applied for pharmacare which may kick in this year (didn't last year as applied late in year) as it is based on income and deductibles. Either way I feel so fortunate in the free care I have received this year. We are so lucky

  7. You look well! We never get snow to stick much, so that much you got is a big deal to me. Hopefully, your hair will not fall out much more.

  8. That snow looks beautiful but I bet you're glad the rain has washed it away now.
Buddy is very cat like, our loads love sinding slithers of sunlight on the rugs and squeezing themnselves into starnge positions to bask in the warmth.
Gorgeous photo of you both, you are doing so well with keeping your hair, it looks lovely.
Sending you loads of love and luck for your next round of chemo. xxx

  9. oops. I had commented last night and wondered if it made it (it didn't appear to) and now I see it didn't. SO... So much snow everywhere. Sorry about hubby's back. Hope it's already feeling better. Your hair looks great. But especially glad to see you doing so well. Looking forward to pictures of YOU shoveling the snow next year!

  10. I'd seen it was snowing on the island - I have a cousin near Qualicum Beach and another in Campbell River. You certainly got a dump! Glad it will be out the way soon.

Wishing you the best as you make your way through this next round of chemo. Take care.

  11. The snow is beautiful but I am very happy for you that nature is helping with the removal. I have never shoveled snow in my life and I am pretty sure I don't want to start now!
Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers as you start this chemo round.

    1. Thank you Anne, if we don't shovel when it snows here our cars get stuck in as we get a lot when it snows (thankfully only 1-3 days in a whole year so I am not complaining)

  12. So unusual for the island to get that kind of snow. That's part of why you moved there! I feel so badly for wee dogs that have to go out in the snow and wet. I am already feeling bad enough that I am yanking my girls away from their Mom and now they have to learn to pee outside in the snow and cold. I hope you are doing alright after your first treatment. Fingers crossed re the hair.

    1. Yes, but at least we see so very little of winter (our hills above are snowpacked though and the ski hill here is doing big business). Buddy is such an island dog...he loves his grass and patrolling the yard so it's been hard on him. Are your girls coming locally from Kelowna? They are so bloody cute

  13. Unlike Buddy I love snow so, last week I went out to pretend that I was cleaning snow from the top of my car just to play a little. Lol! We had closer to 2 feet of snow but, I am guessing it will be all gone by Tuesday. It was a joy to watch it come down three days in a row. Wishing you the best as always...
