A Funny Today

You may have already seen this but our town had a whopper of a Christmas blooper advertising the Christmas parade this year.  Instead of pictures with Santa, they advertised pictures with Satan.  I immediately picked up on the typo and hubby and I had a good laugh.  This is a free paper that is delivered to every household in town.  Apparently, this gaffe gave not only our town a good laugh (what else can you do but laugh?) but the news picked it up and apparently it made the New York Times and Late Night with Seth Meyers along with many Canadian news outlets.  The town sort of embraced the error and along with Santa there were a couple of Satans at our parade.  I actually wanted to go to it because of the error but unfortunately, we were traveling back from Alberta that day.  We just hope someone didn't lose their job over it.  Obviously, more than one person proofed it including the Downtown Business association so many people overlooked it.

I am sure religious folks didn't love it - but the crowd sure did!

  1. Funny! And, exactly would religious folk like Santa?

    1. People out here are pretty moderate, even the religious ones. They tend to embrace any faith, anyone, including those that want to dress up as Santa or Satan for the Christmas parade, thankfully :)

  2. LOLPIMP!!!
    Love it.
Actually in certain Central European countries St. Nicholas is accompanied by his counterpart, Krampus, a half goat/half demon who punishes the bad children.....so, sort of Satan?

    1. Yes, I've heard of Krampus. I am sure he will be featured in future parades, it was a hit for sure.

    1. I know, right? My biggest nightmare is something of this kind (although everyone needs a sense of humor whether they know it or not)

  4. I love it! Someone must have gotten a real pit in their stomach when they received the first call or email about the typo.

    1. I know - hubby used to be the sales manager at a group of radio stations so he is totally familiar with advertising oopsies, we both got a good laugh at someone elses expense this time.

  5. I did see this on Twitter, and there was an interview with the publisher one night on the news. I think most everyone got a chuckle out it. I know I did!

    1. Yes, laughter is good this year, there is really so little of it especially when you watch the news these days

  6. Too funny. I'm pretty sure most religious people have a sense of humour as well. Or at least one would hope so!

    1. I think most of the religious people here would laugh it off too, not too many who are so religious they can't take a joke (or an error0

  8. Brilliant! I'd rather have my photo taken with satan than santa, he looks like the kind of person I hang out with already! xx

    1. I wasn't sure if you'd read this(due to Christmas theme) but I am so glad you did lol, I knew you would laugh

  9. Hilarious! I’ll bet it makes the parade famous, becomes a theme... and a rallying point for the Christian Right.

    1. We have very little Christian right here (mostly a moderate country, even the religious ones). The rest of us thought it was freaking hilarious, and yes, I am certain it will be a theme for future parades

  10. Oh I think that's brilliant - and they did exactly the right thing by laughing it off. Just think, without that typo most of the rest of the world would have gone through the rest of their lives without knowing your town even existed! Seems there's no such thing as bad publicity is there!

    1. Yes you are right. The businesses chimed right in saying it might be the best ever Christmas parade.

    1. Yes, but I can only imagine what the person responsible (both the typesetter and editor?) felt like when it was found out

  13. Gotta love spell check, which was probably the culprit. It's helpful, but obviously, in part, the work of the devil!

  14. I agree with Mrs. Murphy. I'm always getting words I type in changed. You have to be very vigilant. Love the Satan picture. Shows some people have a sense of humour. - Margy
