All In!

A very quick update of our living room.  We are now all in.  See the picture below - yes, there is still painters tape and newspaper on the mantle - but we love the new colour.   We have to do a couple touch-ups today but this paint is both paint and primer, costs more but only a single coat is needed if going over an existing painted wall in good condition.   The initial grey we picked out with a touch of blue was just too light, almost an off white so we drove to the store and picked out classic silver.  I wanted drama and contrast and this has it.  The living room will remain in chaos for several days so you don't get the pretty after shot.  We've decided to do the other wall this week in late afternoon when our workday is mostly over.  This is not an easy job, we have 9 ft ceilings in the entire house, and you can barely see it in the 2nd shot but we also have a 10 foot tray ceiling in the living room which will mean renting a taller ladder than the one we have.  It is also hard on the body to paint up that high.  Best we do it now as later in life I can't see us doing this.  We are both very happy with how the wall looks - we may need to pick out some new art for above the fireplace (thinking something figural and metal) as the orange heron at sunset shot no longer works there.  I took that photo of a heron at sunset and hubby had it nicely framed so it will be moved to the bedroom.

All of our other furniture will go nicely with this new colour - as well as all of our kitchen renos as the quartz countertop has areas of grey and our subway tile is a shade of grey as well.

As for the expensive gallon of paint that was too light, we will either use it in one of the bathrooms or the utility room so it won't be wasted.   Anyway, I appreciate all the suggestions.  We are very happy with the result!

  1. Really nice. If you get a skilled paint mixing person at the store they can sometimes work magic in turning the wrong colour in to the right one.

    1. Great idea, might have them mix a little grey in to get it a tad darker for the master bathroom. We will do that at the very very end though lol

    1. I'd love to tell you it was 100 year old Turkish rug but we paid $300 14 years ago for that for our much larger home, dragged it here, it went over carpet before we had laminate and now it still works - even with the new wall colouring as it has many colours in it including greens and greys. I've had it professionally cleaned once and it sheds a little but other than that it survived 4 teenagers well and is still going strong, one of our better purchases!

    1. Thanks Joy - we think so too but it was so nice to get others to weigh in as I suck at decorating

  5. It looks great! I'm not a fan of gray personally, but it works really well in your room making it look fresh and updated. You are inspiring me to make a change now!

  8. I much prefer grays to beige/tans when it comes to wall colors.
