Garage Sale Day!

Trees in bloom, a month late due to our cold weather

Mom and I decided to go to a Church sale and some garage sales today and I completely scored, even though the day was grey and threatening to rain, it held off until we were done shopping.  First up  at the Church sale I found these beautiful blue Mexican glasses, five in total which hubby immediately fell in love with therefore one is not in the picture as he had scrubbed it up and took it away.  I actually bought these to resell as the cost was so low and Mexican glass sells here really easily.  Apparently we are keeping them though lol.

5 Mexican blown glasses $2.50 (one missing as hubby claimed it before I took pictures)
Brand new with tags made in Brazil leather sandals that fit perfectly even though they are size 7.5 and I am an 8.  Fortunately you can get away with half a size difference in sandals.  I only buy used shoes when they are pristine like this, even then disinfect them when I got home.

New with tags leather sandals $3
This elephant immediately called my name.  All my favorite colours in one kitschy elephant cookie jar.  He is vintage, made in Japan and should be super easy to resell, especially at my low purchase price of $1.  Definitely not keeping him, although he grows on you.
Vintage made in Japan psychedelic cookie jar $1
A two inch crystal which I might sell or keep.  On the fence with this one as I actually own other minerals which I find beautiful.
2 inch crystal $4
A tiny piece of made in France vintage pottery - a whopping .25 cents at the Church sale, a definite keeper to go with my pottery collection.  I do believe the earrings are silver though unmarked.  After I took this picture I cleaned them with a silver polish and they shined right up.

Small piece of pottery from France .25 cents & silver earrings $1
The seafood accesory kit was initially bought for resale, a bargain at $5 but I might keep this around for a while to see if we would actually use it.  We have purchased crab legs once when one of the kids was visiting so it might happen again and I have none of the proper equipment.
Seafood Supper Kit $5
The washboard was $5 and at that price I just couldn't leave it.  I will resell this as although I love antiques it really isn't the kind I collect.  I am sure I can get at least 3 times the purchase price.

Antique Washboard $5
And this is the wine chilling in our fridge in anticipation of the BBQ we are having tonight with our friends.  A Greek Boutari (difficult to find around here) from the island of Paros which is right next door to Naxos where we are traveling to on our trip to Greece.  My friend likes Chardonnay so I picked up a nice BC Okanagan one.  And no, wine is definitely not cheap in Canada.  These two bottles were $30 CAD.  Worth it for some good times with friends though.  We had an absolutely beautiful sunny day yesterday with the warmest temperatures of the year, but today not so much.  Oh well, the BBQ is under cover of our patio and now I can light candles for ambience which doesn't really work when it is sunny out.

It turns out the used book sale is next week not this week so more adventures next weekend!

  1. Wash boards are a great find, check online for 'higher' prices before listing.

    1. Thanks Mitchell, it was one of those early bird gets the worm kind of days.

  3. Sounds like you had a great day with your Mom, although it appears that you are keeping more than you are reselling :)

    1. Funny how that happens :) Good thing I regularly purge things from the house.

  4. Goodness me! With wine that expensive no wonder you have to sell so many of your finds!! I'm glad you're keeping those blue glasses, they're gorgeous. I bet any drink tastes better served in one of those.
I've seen those dollies (Brit speak for your washing board) planted up with trailing ivy in gardens, they look fab. xxx

    1. Yes, booze is expensive here. Canada is legalizing marijuana effective July 1, 2018 as well (legalized it 2 years ago but have to change all the laws to make it come into effect) and am sure they are going to tax that equally. I miss Portugal and Spain, land of the 2 Euro bottle of decent cheap wine. I tend to drink pear cider, 2 litres for $10 CAD. Slightly cheaper

    2. I shouldn't really tell you that 2 L of pear cider is £1.99 here! I hadn't thought of cannabis being taxed, the idea of it being legalised here is years away. xxx

  5. Wow that seafood kit is a real find I'd definitely be keeping that. I love lobster and you do need the kit. We have managed to have some fab wine throughout NZ and Australia as you'd expect but here in Bali not at all it's rare to find and prohibitvly expensive so we've had to resort to Gin lol. I like the sandals and love the crystal too. I think I'm going to renew my efforts when I'm home re the buying and selling as we're spent up now and if I want to continue travelling needs must lol.

    1. Yeah, I agree, at the equivalent of under 3 GBP a cheap find and if we haven't used in in the next 6 months I will consider selling then. Good to know about Bali, it is on our list. Do they have any decent beers? I always like to have money on the side things...plus I love the hunt so it is fun just to go to the yard sales. My Mom bought nothing that day but had a lot of fun...I think we might go again next weekend :)

  6. I love the glassware you found! My parents had some custom blown ones made when some friends of our's had a glass studio here in town years ago. I think I still have one of the glasses that I bought and also a paperweight from them too.

    1. Hubby and I both love colored glass - I should have known they would be keepers when I found them. I didn't even really realize how pretty they were until I got them home.

  7. Can't wait for garage sale season to start here. Be another month perhaps as it's still so cold here in the north. Love the cookie jar and the scrub board. Good finds.

    1. Thanks for commenting Sandy! This was really the first weekend there were any, they go into high gear now until June and then just the odd one over the summer. I haven't had much luck in the past couple of years but if this weekend is any indicator things are looking up!

    1. I think you are right on the earrings. I am getting to be good at spotting French Pottery as it is not very common here.

  9. Great treasures! Could you let hubby keep one glass and sell a set of four? Working all the angles :) Those sandals are pristine! A great find.

    1. That is a great idea...except he has integrated all five into our cupboard and is using two at a time (various rooms). I love them too so will just have to look for other things to resell
