It snowed yet again overnight, for the 8th or 9th time this year. For somewhere that rarely gets snow we have had a cold snowy winter this year. Buddy loves it though and took advantage of burning around in it this morning.
It only snowed a couple of inches but if you don't shovel it same day here and the temperature drops a degree or two it sets up like cement so shoveling the driveway and sidewalk was my exercise today. Hubby was supposed to fly out to Toronto today...but when I checked him in online yesterday we saw his connecting flight was canceled and in order to get him there at a decent time today we had to have him fly out last night and overnight in Calgary. Our client will absorb the extra expense for the hotel but at least he has now arrived in Toronto and we no longer have to worry about the weather situation fouling up flights. It was a good thing that the flight was canceled so far in advance as his flights would not have gone smoothly today due to another storm set to hit here this afternoon. Likely I will need to repeat the shoveling routine tomorrow.
One of the ways I try on save on groceries is to prevent food waste. Against my better judgement I bought a box of oranges just before Christmas thinking with two kids here we would have no problem eating them. They went mostly untouched until New Years and I have been having mango/mandarin smoothies every day trying to use them up. Today the last three went into my breakfast smoothie. Normally I only buy a couple of oranges at a time - I will know for next year. That or buy a box to split with my Mom. I buy frozen mango in a 2 kg bag for about $15. Not cheap but zero waste and that lasts me a couple of months worth of smoothies. If the budget was tighter I would not be indulging in frozen mango smoothies. My 15 year old blender has gotten more use this year than all the others due to this new smoothie addiction.
I cleaned out the fridge today to ensure there was nothing else lurking - and found a very small bit of cheese that was beyond redemption. I thought I was on top of fridge but apparently it was hiding behind a bottle. This afternoon will be a small bowl of soup leftover from Friday night and supper will be a taco salad using up some tomatoes and lettuce. No groceries will be bought until Thursday as hubby gets back that night so the fridge will have to be restocked.
I am taking a hard earned day off from the business today and intend to snuggle in with the electric blanket and the dog and try finishing two books off. Have a great Sunday everyone!
