Thrift Store Finds

Tall Bamboo vase $10 (twigs not included)
So the last contractor has left the building and with the exception of us having to do some repair work on walls and painting the house reno is officially complete.  I will be compiling a post this week showing some of the before's and afters but overall we are really happy with the final product.

I have been thrifting a fair amount this month and have found a few goodies I thought I would share with you.  I have been looking for something to go by our front door for a while and found this bamboo vase for $10 at my new favorite thrift store.  The twigs cost more than that although I could have gone out into the forest and chopped some down, in the end I bought some funky looking twigs instead that won't poke people on their way in the door.

Baretrap shoes $6
I need some new shoes and fortunately I found some.  I prefer to buy real leather good quality shoes that are comfortable but hate paying high prices.  These above are Baretraps, some of the most comfortable shoes ever.  A few years ago I bought brand new some Baretrap sandals and I still wear them.  These look like they were almost never worn.
Brand new with tags Rockport shoes $10

The next pair of shoes I found aren't quite as comfortable but will hopefully be so after breaking in.  Rockport band new with tags for $10.

From Belgium 1966 Boch Rambouillet Pattern hand-painted salad bowl $5

A favorite recent find was this large salad bowl which I knew on sight it was worth far more than the $5 price tag.  Current ebay listings show it should go for around $25-30 USD.  I bought it with the intention to resell it to the local mid-century modern store in town but when I got it home hubby fell in love with it and it is now staying as our new salad/popcorn bowl.  Look, it even matches our new quartz countertops!

Also not shown but purchased were a pair of DKNY jeans in my size for $4.75 almost brand new and two Eddie Bauer spring blouses for $1.50 each.

Have you found anything fun on your thrifting travels recently?

  1. Ya, have to love getting bargains at the thrift shop. What is one man's/woman's junk is another's treasure!

    1. My entire wardrobe minus underwear, bra and socks comes from thrift stores. You cannot go in a single room in this house without seeing somekind of second hand treasure - I love thrifting!

  2. Oh I just love your front door and your new vase is so pretty. I have a big tall vase that has bamboo sticks in it that we cut from our backyard in PA before we moved. I haven't thrifted anything lately, but we almost snagged a new bathroom vanity on Craigslist yesterday. Unfortunately, I think someone else beat us to it because I never got a response and the listing is down.

    1. Thanks! I needed something with height there and this works. We have a wide hall and I still want to get some kind of hall table but I am slow buying furniture until just the right piece comes along so I am sure it will take a while. Crap on a cracker - I hate when people don't respond as a courtesy to simply say that it was sold already. Good luck in your hunt! Where there is one there will always be another.

  3. Great finds. That looks like the bamboo vase we took to a thrift store in Southern California 5 years ago!

  4. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the vase. And the rest of the finds are AMAZING.
I love that you got some great shoes for cheap. I just can't see paying full price anymore. It makes me crazy. Anna worked at the 2nd hand store and says she can't pay retail either. That's my girl!

    1. I even have hubby addicted to thrifting now - he just found some Merrill shoes at Value village today for $20 - normally $120. I only buy him the odd golf shirt as he is super picky unless he finds it himself. My stepdaugher is the same way - only second hand shopping for her - she sees the value in it.

  5. Where is the retro store? When I can think of a good reason to pay for ferry I'll want to check it out.

  8. I have the exact pair of Beartraps! They ARE comfortable. I went to Value Village last week and found a brand new area rug for the kitties to sit on while they bird watch. And I found a lovely curio shelf made of real wood that I'll repaint to display some of my carvings. Total spent - $9.00.

    1. I can't believe you have the same shoes - so funny. I love the prices at second hand, don't you? It almost kills me to pay retail for anything.

  9. Great finds! You can't keep everything but when you find a great bowl that fits your life, you just go with it! The bamboo vase is perfect, a great splash of color and large but not overwhelming. Boom! I'll buy good shoes second hand in a heartbeat! You really hit the lottery here!

    1. I constantly purge things - definitely must keep things going out of the house instead of just in!

  10. Now that we are both retired we will have to cruise the thrift shops for good deals. Rockports are my favourite brand, but I don't want to pay the price anymore. Near our home in Langley, BC there is another thrift store that sells dented cans of tomatoes etc. Is there a store like that in your neck of the woods?
