Locked In The Office

Buddy and I are currently locked up in the office as there is a contractor in my kitchen installing tile backsplash.  It takes quite a lot of time as we were warned by the gentleman who recommended this contractor that he is very precise and does great work but prefers to do it slowly.  He doesn't cost any more for the time it takes him so we are good with that.  Hubby is away on business so I have locked us away to try and get most of our Corporate year end paperwork done.

The picture above is from one of the places we walk the dog, the Courtenay air park.  It is right next to a little small aircraft runway and when we were walking Buddy on Friday an aircraft landed with his wheels about 3 feet above our head. A bit scary considering that as recently as the fall someone had mechanical issues at this runway and ended up crashing into the building that houses my dog's vet.  No one was hurt thankfully.  Beautiful setting for a walk though and totally worth the short drive it takes to get there.

In addition to getting some work done I have been rearranging hotels for our April trip to Spain.  Due to a crappy exchange rate things will be  a little more expensive but I did manage to lock in one hotel at over $100 CAD less over 3 nights which helps pay for other things. 2.5 months to go and I am starting to get excited!  We are flying into Malaga for 3 nights, 3 nights at Cordoba and then 4 nights in Madrid where we fly home from.  Originally it had been planned as a 9 night trip but due to a horrible airline schedule change we ended up with 10 nights and a better connection.

Based on the condition that my kitchen is in for the next couple of days my meals consist of whatever can be prepared in 90 seconds or less.  Last night it was chili out of a can.  Tonight it might be cereal.  Tomorrow is Mom's 72nd birthday so I am taking her out to supper to our favorite Greek restaurant which we are both looking forward to.  If you eat out and spend the money it better taste good and this particular restaurant has never disappointed us.

light grey tile to accent the grey in the quartz countertop (bar overhang)

That is all that is shaking in my world, both dog and I are a bit bored (accounting zzzzz) and tired of being cooped up but based on the lousy weather outside (rain rain and more rain) likely it is the best place to be.  At least we are warm.  What's the weather like in your little part of the world?

  1. The tile is going to be beautiful. I hope that you post pictures of everything that you have done once it is all finished. You have done a lot.
That's a bit crazy about the plane and the vet. I would be constantly looking overhead.

    1. Bathroom and kitchen renos are the most painful. So much easier when you have more than one bathroom and can shorten the time it takes to be without one.

  4. Woke up to rain this morning here in Queretaro, Mexico. But it's supposed to clear up around noon and a high of 21C (71F).

  5. Ugh! Just a few days ago I was out hiking in the sunshine and +8c. Two days later it started to snow and that has continued off and on and was -17c yesterday! Winter has arrived!

    1. Yeah, I hear more crappy weather is coming your way. I guess you have to expect that in January in Ontario :) These tiles were an odd size though and a different color than normal, paid a little more and it took a little more time to get them but they look great with the counter. So happy the job turned out.

  7. Looking forward to seeing the new kitchen! We once hired a painter to do the old and grand woodwork around 13 windows in a sunroom. We were told she was slow but very good and we were simply tired of painting at that point. We figured all those windows for us would be 6 hours work. She spent a month at our house and probably put in 30 hours. We finally gave up, paid her, and finished it ourselves. May your tiler be quicker than that!

    1. Holy crap! A month - I would go bananas. I nearly did and he was here 4.5 days...but in the end he did an amazing job and I couldn't be happier with the final product.

  8. I like the backsplash tile and know you will be thrilled when the last of the remodel is finished.

Sunny postcard day with temps in the low 50's high 40's? Not exactly sure but it is just lovely

    1. That does sound like lovely weather! The final job turned out amazing - really is the crowning piece of the kitchen and will be so much better than wiping down a crappy wall as we previously had no backsplash tile at all.

  9. Lows in the 30's in the morning and high around 60 right now. It's sunny but it gets cold fast as the sun sets. I can't wait to see the after pics of your kitchen!

    1. You are definitely warmer than us. We have had a colder winter than normal here. Hopefully no more snow - lots of fog this week though.

  11. Now I can't wait to see how your tile turns out! Isn't it so peaceful to walk with a dog along the water? We're getting hit with thick snow right now, so no river for us for the next few days. It is my favorite way to unwind during the week!

    1. I am most at peace when by the ocean. Way too cold to go swimming in though. We don't take buddy close to the water as he shivers just on the regular walks (we do have a coat we put on him some time). I think bigger dogs do better with colder temperatures.

  13. I would love to do a tile backsplash! I prefer people who take their time but charge by the job. You know you are getting a perfectionist!

    1. He did such a good job, he undercharged so I gave him a good tip. He is just a guy who does handiman type work with tile setting as one of his abilities. I think he should do that all the time instead. We were so impressed with the final job.
