Just a Practical Girl

I am extremely difficult to buy for at Christmas since I am such a practical person.  My Mom won this gift basket at a community play we went to on Saturday night.  They were selling tickets to win baskets so they could replace windows in the old Church they now use as a theatre.  She spent $5 on tickets and won this basket worth approximately $100.  She fished out one set of paper napkins and a Santa ornament and passed it on to me.  I fished out one travel alarm clock and put the basket and the rest of it on our Facebook bidding site.  It sold for $35, a bargain in my books but for Mom the cash is so much handier than things she will never use and just take up space.  There was a insulated lunch box (she is retired and we work from home), hand held electronic game, dip chiller, ornaments, a golf ball monogrammer, a garden journal and a few other chachkes.  Most of my family buys gift cards or candles for me.  Mom asked me what I wanted for Christmas and I requested new wooden spoons. Just yesterday I used the remainder of a gift card to buy new soap dispensers for our bathroom.  I want little.  Sometimes the things I want the most are free/extremely cheap.  I do not have expensive taste, although I do like our home to look nice.

That, by the way is part of our new quartz counter, an investment in our home that if we sold tomorrow we would get our money back on according to our friend the realtor.  Our tile has been delayed - OF COURSE!  So the reno will not be over until the new year now.  Oh well, at least my kitchen won't be chaos right before Christmas.

I tried to get  a nice picture of Buddy in front of the tree last night...Buddy was having none of it and was not very impressed I was making him wear this stupid collar.  He tried to bite it off - maybe next week I will be more successful.  Instead I named this masterpiece - PSYCHEDELIA CHRISTMAS BUDDY :)

Just tying up loose ends before we fly out Saturday for our family Christmas visit.  Most everything is done - just need to pack a bunch of stuff in the suitcase and do a little research on where to buy flowers for my Mother-in-law.  Have a great weekend everyone!

  6. I don't enter lotteries, but I did cheap out by cashing in reward points to buy one Christmas present! What a sensible thing for you to do with your winnings.

    1. I rarely pay to enter contests, although do buy the occasional lottery ticket about 3 times a year. I am so happy Mom wanted to sell the basket as she downsized and doesn't need any more stuff!

  7. "I do not have expensive taste, although I do like our home to look nice."-I feel the same way. We never have a lot of money but I think effort goes a long way in decorating.
I always ask for gift cards for Christmas. It has been said that I am hard to buy for too. How hard is it to get a gift card?LOL My FIL is a hard one to buy for but now that they are retired and travel, we get them restaurant gift cards so they can eat out when they travel.

    1. My previous realtor said it was "pride of ownership" that you could tell that whoever lived here did so with pride. This is not our most expensive home but definitely our coziest. We have 3 guitars in the living room due to lack of space - but I think it looks neat so we didn't move them back to the spare room when my stepdaughter moved out. Work with what you have!

  8. Happy holidays to you, and so awesome that I keep reading about successes with Facebook bidding! I think I already asked, but what page do you go on? I'm trying to get rid of stuff every day, haha

  9. Pets are like that. Sometimes my cats won't have any of it either! For Xmas I asked for gloves and a scarf. I don't really want anything this year.

Merry Xmas and Happy New Year to you and yours. May the new year be filled with joy and love!
