On Monday night I got called in to count special ballots for six hours on Election night which will add a bit more to the Spain wine and beer fund plus I got to see the actual counting process for the first time which was interesting. In Canada everything to do with the election is manual and triple checked therefore very difficult for anyone to sway election results one way or the other. At some point in future that may change though as this is the digital age and we are behind the times in the process.
A couple of you were interested in Hubby's Beet relish recipe on the last post, here is the recipe he followed:
Beet and Horseradish Relish - Simple easy ingredients and completely tasty. Excellent on sandwiches and as a condiment with meat or roasted veggies.
With regard to our renovation we are in waiting mode. Waiting for our ceiling crack to be fixed, waiting for our counter tops to be installed and then the next phase is tiling back splashes, framing bathroom mirrors and final touch-ups. I would love to say everything will be done by Christmas but likely it won't.
Halloween is on a Saturday night this year and I expect lots of little ghouls and witches at the door asking for treats. Has anyone else noticed how expensive chocolate is this year? Up several dollars on the same sized boxes of treats from last year. We both enjoy handing out candy to kids and decorating the entrance way to our home so we will bite the bullet and buy the candy although may opt for some non-chocolate choices to keep costs down. My favorite Halloween candy as a kid was rockets and I am sure there are kids out there that still love them so likely will buy some of those.
I have managed to lose 3.5 pounds this month, partly from working the election and partly because I am eating less. I have about 10 to go before I reach my target weight which is 133 lbs as that is what I weighed 12 years ago when I met hubby and a weight I would like to see again. In the mean time I am refraining from buying any clothing at all so that if I hit my goal weight I can go on a mini-shopping spree - at the thrifts of course. I have been to the thrift store recently but cannot seem to find anything at all to bring home, perhaps I am just too picky! I did score a nice golf shirt for hubby - Tommy Bahama that retails for $95 for $3.75 that is from this year's line.
I am off now to do some grocery shopping - and a buy one ticket on the lottery tonight which I only do about three times a year. Wish me luck!
Good luck!

Thanks - didn't win anything but if you don't buy a ticket you have no chance.
DeleteAnything with beets sound good to me! Ill try that recipe for sure!
ReplyDeleteIt tastes pretty good and I don't like beets. It would be very tasty with roast beef.
DeleteNice work! We have the same weight goal (well, mine is 135, but close enough :-)).
ReplyDeleteWe opted for non chocolate candy this year as well. It's less expensive, but also so I won't eat it. :-)
I have a bit more to buy today, I think I will buy chips as hubby will eat those but not me :)
DeleteI opted not to give out candy this year, both for cost reasons and for safety reasons. Our development is just huge and I hear the kids come in carloads at a time from other areas. We just have a few on our street so maybe I'll give them a little something earlier in the day. Congrats on the weight loss. With all the work I do, plus walking and lifting, I had expected to lose some weight but it hasn't happened. I have more stamina than I used to though, so that's good I guess.
ReplyDeleteWe usually get about 40 although this year might be more because it is Saturday and they usually just walk. We shut off our lights at 9pm though as after that you just get the teen hooligans.
DeleteCongratulations on your weight loss!
ReplyDeleteI am doing chocolate this year only because I have a neighborhood reputation as the "big candy bar house" I guess I am going to have to move and then I can hand out non chocolate guilt free.
Oh you are that lady! All the kids definitely gravitate to your house and they tell others in the street lol.
DeleteYay for Spain money! As for the photo, what comes to mind is BINGO!
ReplyDeleteI couldn't find a great lottery picture :) Only five months to go until we are in Spain!
DeletePlease lose a few pounds for me!!! Great job and keep it up!!
ReplyDeleteAh if only it were that easy :)
DeleteCheers for the recipe and well done on the weight loss. Hallowe'en wasn't really a big deal in the UK although it seems to be gaining popularity in recent years - not for us, though. We lock the gates and no begging kids can get access - aren't we mean? xxx
ReplyDeleteNot mean, I completely understand that some people don't participate. My mom gets no trick or treaters as they don't seem to come into her condo complex. It is a big thing in Canada though - people spend lots of money decorating the outside of their houses.
DeleteIt will indeed be interesting to see how our new PM makes out - so far so good. Good luck on the weight loss - I haven't cut back much on my eating but I'm trying to keep walking as much as I can. The older I get the harder it is to shift the weight!
ReplyDeleteAll the chocolate from Halloween has been a temptation but I am glad for the weight I have lost even if I don't lose any more. Still trying though.
DeleteGood luck for the lottery! We are giving chocolate and candy this year, quite a happening since we haven't given out any for the last 18 years!
ReplyDeleteWe made little bags with chocolate, rockets, kisses and a lollipop.
And when we run out we will watch Hocus Pocus!!!
I didn't win but not that surprised lol. I wonder how many trick or treaters you will get this year. I love my rockets, some are waiting in the cupboard. I used to love houses that made treat bags - those were the best!
