A Sneak Peek!

Sorry for the crappy photos but I just wanted to share what the flooring company dropped off yesterday - 50 boxes of this wide-plank Armstrong flooring.  It is supposed to have a 50 year residential and 10 year commercial warranty which basically is one of the strongest most durable laminates you can buy.  We paid more for it but hopefully it will be worth it in the long run.  The guys arrive tomorrow, Wednesday to start ripping out the carpet and start installing.  We have to remove every single piece of furniture in 50 percent of our home later today.  The only thing we can leave in the living room is the sofa and love seat which they said instead of hauling it out to the garage (which we paid for to have them assist us - it weighs a ton) they will just pick it up and move it to where it needs to sit out of the road until they complete that section.

This is what our new laminate looks like - keep in mind there is a piece of plastic over it - I felt weird ripping a box open for the photo, silly since we paid for it.  It is very light in colour primarily because we have loads of windows in our home and a dark laminate might bleach out.  If this bleaches out it is so light no one will notice.  We both instantly loved it.  I also liked some darker cherry colour ones but they do not go with our existing cabinets which are very light as well. In the kitchen we have dark countertops which are damaged - they will be replaced in the fall with dark granite countertops - a huge splurge and one which is attractive to buyers if we ever sell this pad (not for 20 years!).  Definitely not a frugal thing to do but again, an investment in our home and happiness and the money was set aside out of the funds from selling our last twice as big twice as expensive home.

I have other news - we just booked tickets in April to somewhere in Europe - can you guess where?  I will reveal the destination in my next blog.  See you on the other side!

  1. Nice planks! (That sounds a bit rude, but it's not meant to be!).
Choosing all the things we need to renovate, gives me the wobblies...I'm afraid I'll 'get it wrong'.

    1. Love the "nice planks" lol. I hated choosing too - that is why I managed to put hubby off of it for the last 3 years. In the end we are very happy with the flooring, thank goodness.

    1. It was almost in the travel plans as a stopover but unfortunately we didn't have enough time.

    1. Prague is definitely in the cards in the coming years, it sounds like such a neat place - the Czech Republic in general!

  4. I love the look of that laminate! We just put some in our RV and it is the same rustic kind, but a medium instead of the light. It has a touch of green in it as well since I wanted that barnyard look.

Cannot wait to see it! Flooring makes the most sudden change to a room.

    1. It does make such a difference, especially in the dining room. We hated the carpet under the dining room table.

  5. The flooring is beautiful. Can't wait until you post pictures of the finished project! Since Prague was already guessed, I will guess Barcelona.

    1. You were right on Spain! And we almost were in Barcelona but due to tight timelines we decided that the other side was easier to travel around and access the sites. Definitely on another trip though as it is easy access to France from Barcelona high speed train.

    1. Turkey will definitely be on a future trip - Istanbul looks fabulous and I have only ever spent one day in Turkey from a cruiseship about 15 years ago. I absolutely loved it, but right when I was researching things ISIS bombed the border and hubby was put off. Maybe in a few years.

    1. You would think Greece would be a great deal but it has always been way more expensive than Spain and still is, prices have not come down as low as you would think. It definitely is in the plans in the next 3 years when we have more cashflow as we will be done supporting my youngest Stepdaughter.
