The Invincible Chicken

I've not been that busy but not had much to blog about this week.  This afternoon starts a couple of Staycation type holiday days for us.  Unfortunately, we get to do things like clean the oven that we are selling and install a new oven fan.  Oh well, those are part of the master renovation plan.  I really want to spend a fair amount of time at the beach this week so hopefully those tasks will go by quickly.  I don't see why self cleaning ovens do such a crappy job around the doors.  Why should you have to go back and clean them after it has completed its cycle?  Can you tell how much I love cleaning my oven?  It is right up there with ironing, my second most hated housework chore.

Anyway, onto the title of this blog post.  Buddy and his brand new teeth blow through toys like no tomorrow.  The only long term survivors are rubber balls and this squawking rubber chicken.  Best investment ever.  He loves it - runs around the house with its legs in his mouth.  Not a scratch on it after two weeks, unlike every stuffy that comes into the house which is partially destroyed in five minutes or less.  I resorted to finding a really old pair of socks and put the squeekers from the now destroyed snake in them to keep him occupied.  He loved it - and it only took him two days to have that completely destroyed again (tough squeekers though - we saved them again).

I found a bargain this week - too lazy to take a picture but 3 packets of cilantro seeds which I plant every 3 weeks to keep up with our demand on an end of season sale for .25 cents each.  That should be enough for this year and next although they say they expire in November I am sure they will be fine for next year as well.  Regular price was $1.99 per pack.  Check your gardening stores for seed bargains near you as they are blowing them out (mine found at Superstore).

That's all I've got today.  Have a great day everyone!

  3. I feel for you with the oven cleaning! I have a self cleaning oven that I am scared to turn on!

I have to clean mine soon and I even have to take the door apart because I have a weird HUGE dust bunny between the 2 windows.

    Long live the eternal chicken!

  4. Yep, I just love cleaning my oven too! ;-)

Glad that the rubber chicken is lasting so well for Buddy! Whiskey used to have a kong and through her whole life she only went through two of them and they were used every day!

    1. We haven't gotten a kong but likely that is the next thing we buy him.

  5. Zoey has a little rubber ducky that she has not destroyed. Seems they leave the toys they really like intact. Zoey destorys tennis balls. She pulls all the fuzz off them like she's skinning an animal, then chews the balls to bits. It's what dogs do I guess. The one thing she can't destroy is a piece of antler. We buy them on ebay (much cheaper than at pet stores) and they last a long time. Zoey really gets into chewing on one and it keeps her calm.

    1. I agree - Buddy is calm if chewing - we use chewies when we want peace to watch tv. I've never thought about the antler, not sure if we can buy them here as haven't seen them in the pet store.

    1. Veggies are pretty clean :) My next oven is brand new - likely the only one I will ever have in my lifetime so I hope to keep it nice and clean.

  7. I hate cleaning the oven and I flat out refuse to iron. We are the wrinkled people.
Why does it seem that there is always a project when it is nice out?

    1. I only iron about twice a year. I now buy clothes that don't need ironing and hubby irons his own as I refuse to do it. I still own some older clothes that need ironing though :) Life is a never-ending project!

  8. I agree there is always marks around the door. And how do those marks get between the glass on the oven doors as well?

    1. That drove me crazy on my last oven = something ran down between the panes. You would think they could seal them better.

  9. Great deal on the cilantro seeds and the tip to buy seeds now. I will pick some up for Mexico.

  10. Hmm I may have to look for those seed sales. I finally feel ready to get some seeds started! And yep, I have to get the oven done asap, it's in critical condition. I read a method where you soak it in baking soda and then spray it with vinegar the next day. Hopefully that'll reduce the work...

    1. Watch the baking soda and vinegar thing - I did that and liquid got between the glass panes so keep it to the inside of the stove.

  11. Oven cleaning . . . oh god. I should really get to that, but it's on my list of things to tackle that just never happens. ;-)

  12. I love my self cleaning oven. It's easy but discolors the panel from the exhaust fumes. It's a design flaw because when I complained when I first got it, they replaced the stove but the new one did too, so I just learned to live with it. I put a foil shield around the exhaust and try to direct most of it away from the panel (into the room...onto the walls...ugh...) but it's diffused so I guess less noticeable. By the way for Volnlipi who has a dust bunny between her glass panels...there is a a way to clean that without taking off the doors. At the bottom of the door is a vent and you can insert a wire up through the vent when the drawer underneath is open and pull that dust bunny out. I read about it on Pinterest. They were talking about cleaning between the glass doors but it would work!

    1. Mine discolored the panel too - they really need to figure that out. Great dust bunny tip!

  13. I don't have a self-cleaning oven :( so am very conscious about having tinfoil or a cookie sheet underneath anything that might bubble over.
