Furry Friday - The Sun Worshipper

Buddy (age 3.5 months) got his first haircut last Friday. This is the regular poodle cut.  I have to get used to the fact that she shaves his face and feet - but now he kind of looks like he has monkey feet lol.  Poodles have hair not fur so they barely lose any fuzz in your home.  As a result, just like humans they need their hair cut once in a while.  We have cedars in our backyard, no trees, and Buddy loves sticks so we brought the piece of driftwood  in the photo back from the beach for him.  Hubby had to cut it into two so it was Buddy sized lol.

He recently discovered that on sunny days he can follow the sun across the floor through the kitchen window to soak up as much warmth as possible.  Sometimes, he falls asleep and the sunshine moves off into other territory.  He, like us, prefers warmth and sunshine over rain and cold.

We try to get at least one walk, longer each time plus a long play session outside in every day or indoors if it is raining.  We went for our longest walk yet on Wednesday but I tried it again on Thursday and I ended up dragging/carrying him partway.  Maybe two long walks in a row is too much for his Puppy constitution.  He takes lots of naps.  You can see how small he is based on comparing him to his orange ball - that is the size of a tennis ball.  We go to the vet next week so will have him weighed again but he has grown quite a lot since we got him and is now close in size to his mother.  His dad is twice that size so I expect he will still get a bit taller.

Buddy has certainly changed our life.  We love him to bits and as a result of potty training/trying to drain some of his energy I am getting lots of fresh air and exercise.  This week his potty training is going so well in the evenings when we are able to watch him 100% he is allowed on the carpet in the dining room and living room.  There is still the odd accident, mostly when we don't read his signals or he gets over-excited playing, but things are definitely progressing.  He has no accidents on the linoleum, however, as understands that is what the pee pad is for.  We just need to get him to understand the carpet is not a gigantic pee pad.

This final picture was just taken a couple minutes ago - Buddy wants me to hurry up and finish the blog so we can go outside and play.  Have a great weekend everyone!

  1. We had a black poodle named Annie(as in Little Orphan Annie). She was from someone who showed poodles but Annie didn't mean the measures of poodle perfection so she was given to my mother as a pet.
When Annie went to the groomer's they would put bows on her ears, which she couldn't stand.

The first time she got groomed mom but the bows back on Annie's ears right before my dad got home from work. He made a fuss over how pretty she looked(the dog, not my mom lol), that from then on Annie would leave the bows in from the groomer's until AFTER my dad came home. After getting his praise she would run into the den and tear those suckers off! lolz

Who says poodles aren't smart? 8-)

Hope y'all and Buddy have a nice weekend.

    1. That is so funny..I didn't want him to look too fru fru but I can now see why she shaves his face and feet - it is too hard to keep him clean otherwise as he burns about the yard getting into everything.

  3. Buddy's fur looks so soft, I just want to reach into my monitor and pet him. So cute! I'm happy to hear that potty training is going well. I missed my Furry Friday post. I was too tired from working and didn't have any photos to put up, so I skipped it. Glad you didn't. :-)

    1. It is soft and we bathe him often enough he smells good too! I missed last Friday for the same reason. I am thinking of doing it every other week so I can blog about other things as life is so busy it seems I only blog about twice a week now.

  6. That puppy is too cute. I want to hold his ears in my hands and kiss his forehead. I bet he smells like a puppy too. I have seen some cute Rott pics lately, too. NO, NO, NO I have to escape the puppy urge.

    1. That is why they don't have dander and are hypoallergenic as it is the dander that makes people allergic.

  8. I think poodles have such sweet intelligent faces. Yours is no exception. Getting lots of fresh air and exercise is a bonus! Can you see me dragging the kittens along on the trails?

    1. I was a cat person too - and we would definitely have one if hubby wasn't allergic. The only dogs I ever had previously were farm outside dogs so this is a lot different with an indoor dog (who loves the outside). Hug has been given!

  12. I have a chihuahua named Buddy who is my best friend and constant companion. He keeps me company and keeps me entertained. However, I agree about the walking. If I want to have my lap to myself at night, he's got to have that afternoon walk.
