Tomato, Tamata

These yummy tomatoes were a gift from a coworker from my part-time job.  I am sure we will be friends after I leave that job, she and her husband are funny and kind people.  The green ones are called Zebra tomatoes and are fully ripe.  I shall be having a bacon lettuce and tomato sandwich for dinner to try them out.  It is funny how free produce can make you so happy!

I managed to get one more job off the "get done before hubby gets home" list - cleaned out the fridge.  I cannot recall the last time I cleaned it although it always get a quick wipe weekly, it still needed a really good thorough cleaning.  No pictures of that, just lots of veggies, eggs, cheese and booze (yes, booze!)

I cashed in $20 worth of Superstore points (Loblaws) today to get even more veggies so the fridge is full for hubby's return on Friday.  Only 2 more sleeps!

  3. Nice looking tomatoes! We were given some as well. :-)

I have to give our fridge a thorough cleaning too but I will wait another week or so and do it just before we leave for the winter. Glad you got another item stroked off your list. You must be feeling a bit better now?!

  5. We're on the home stretch with our tomatoes, but now have a giant plant of cucumbers blooming. Those are the boys favorites, and they are very excited to pick them each day.

Let us know how the green ones tasted!

  6. That's one reason I enjoy gardening. It seems like free food, but of course there's the cost of seeds, sets, fertilizer, etc., that needs to be calculated into the total cost. Even if it isn't cheaper, I know where my produce came from and how it grew. Speaking of tomatoes, I had two volunteer grape tomato plants that have been producing like crazy. I love the sweet flavour and crunchy texture. - Margy

  8. I love how you do 'two more sleeps' and I do days and a wake up! I often admire my sister's fridge - it is always spotless! But then maybe Mother keeps it clean! Here's the mincemeat bars recipe. I couldn't find an email to send it to......

    Fruit and Nut Bars
    2 cups flour
    1 cup sugar
    1/2 tsp baking soda
    1/2 tsp salt
    1/2 cup vegetable oil
    1/4 cup milk
    27 ounce jar of mincemeat
    1 cup chopped nuts

Preheat oven to 400*. In large mixing bowl combine dry ingredients. Add oil and milk, stirring til mixture is well moistened and crumbly. Reserving 1 cup of the crumb mixture - press remainder firmly on bottom of a 13 X 9 inch baking sheet. (I greased my pan.) Top with mincemeat. Sprinkle remaining crumb mixture evenly over the top; then the nuts. Bake 30 minutes or til golden brown. Cool and cut into bars. Store loosley covered at room temperature.
