A Force To Be Reckoned With

Hubby flew out of town yesterday afternoon on a 12 day business trip.  I drove straight from the airport to the store to buy carpet cleaning solution.  Between yesterday afternoon and this afternoon, in addition to working both my part-time job and company job I managed to get the ENTIRE house carpets cleaned with our steam cleaner.  I only moved the dining room furniture as the rest is too freaking heavy.  Total cost?  $32 in cleaning solution.  I also managed to organize our kitchen junk drawer.  I have a large mental list of a  bunch of items that I hope to accomplish before he gets back.  Frankly, I am a little scared to write it down on paper.  For someone who lives with a chronic fatigue disease (fibromyalgia) it sometimes even surprises me how much energy I have on occasion.  It helps that I didn't need to cook or do any other chores.  I ate left over BBQ yesterday and leftover rice today.  I am trying to eat up items in the fridge so I can do a massive clean in there as well (its on the big mental list).  After finishing the carpets this afternoon I went and picked the very last of the blackberries and have an apple blackberry crumble (to share with Mom) baking away in the oven as we speak.  It is a wonder what you can get done when you don't do any of your regular chores :)

  2. Wow! You've been very busy. My dh used to travel a bit in our younger days and I would keep myself busy while he was gone, doing lots of little things that needed attention but never got to until he'd go away for a few days. I need a couple of those days right now!

    1. Funny, when he is home for a couple of months straight I think the same thing! Right now though 12 days is too long away - missing him a bunch.

  3. Sounds like you are making lots of positive changes in your life. I have a drawer like that which needs sorting. It's in a constant mess! Enjoy your crumble.

    1. It was soooo good and made the house smell awfully nice - way better than expensive air fresheners

  4. My best mate suffers with the same disease, one day she can decorate a whole room then she's laid up for months.

Well done you for getting so much done x

    1. I try not to think about it too much, don't let it stop me from living life. Part of the reason I am quitting my part-time job though is it is tough on the fibro, working for ourselves, if I have a bad day I stay in bed and work in my jammies.

  5. If you did all that on day one, you should have the whole house gone over by day 12!!!

    1. At least a good chunk, there is hope for that as we are going to have a busy fall with not much time for such things.

  6. So true! I feel like I can't get a thing done when everyone is home... and seems like someone is always home! Looks like you really made some great progress! Hope your energy holds up the whole time your hubby is away! :)

    1. Energy has gone down so taking it easy this weekend - hopefully it will come back and I can get a bunch more work done next week!

  7. Your carpet looks nice and fresh - good job! I've been working on floors too, in the basement. Yes it does help to have people out of the way for awhile in order to get things done. Don't overdo it though!

    1. I am pretty good at mechanical stuff but really crappy at creative/painting type chores. The after-drink part sounds great, how about we skip the work part?

  10. I can't believe all you got done. Carpet cleaning would have been enough for me! You are to be admired... and I can guarantee I won't be emulating you any time soon.

    1. I can't quite believe it myself - likely an event not to be repeated so I had to document it on my blog to make sure it actually happened.

  11. Why is it that we feel we can get so much more done around the house when our husband's are gone? I cleaned my carpets too when my hubby left town in July. Then I painted my desk when he left this last weekend. I also organized some stuff just like you did. So funny.

    1. It is because we are not saddled with our normal chores I think - like cooking (although he does some of that too). Tonight I had cereal for dinner, a whopping 30 seconds spent on feeding myself lol:)

  12. Yep, I agree you managed to get lots done in just one day! I have been slaving away cleaning the oven in "our house". It has taken part of yesterday and part of today to get it done. When we came here in May it was "cleaned" by someone and it wasn't too bad but it really wasn't up to my standards but I just didn't have time until now to do it.

Enjoy your time with your Mom and the apple blackberry crumble.

    1. Fortunately you guys will get to go back to a nice clean home/resort when you return to manage the same place in the Spring. At least now you have a bit of a home base for next year - plus a clean oven :)

  13. I, too have fibromyalgia. The days I get a lot done are followed by three days of not getting anything done. So, I either wear myself out or pace myself. You did so much!

    1. I don't have too many terrible days but did have some later in the week. I have a limited time to get all this done though as we work from the home and find it hard to do noisy things like carpet cleaning during a normal week.

  14. Nice! I have a few things you can do if you run out of things on your list! Just sayin'.....
