Garage Saling

Saturday hubby was flying home from a business trip so Mom and I decided to go to two community garage sales.  These are my spoils:

Wilton brand new cake decorating kit.  $3.  I love making cut out sugar cookies each Christmas but none got made last year as we were busy moving Mom the month of December.  I own quite a few cookie cutters so now can decorate the cookies properly.  I also bought three beaded necklaces for $1 each.

We travel a lot both for business and pleasure so are always in need of good luggage.  The suitcase was $10 and is in brand new condition.  There are two Wenger Swiss laptop cases with handles/wheels.  These normally go for $60 plus.  I paid $8 for both.  There is a logo on them that I am going to try and cover up somehow.  Otherwise, one was brand new with tags and the other had only been gently used.

Hubby's flight got delayed by 2 hours so while I was waiting at home to go pick him up (we live 5 mins from airport) I cleaned out my closet and got rid of a whole garbage bag worth of clothes.   I had purged my closet 2 years ago when we moved to the Island but many of those clothes that made the cut then did not make the cut today.  We had too many hangers as are always accumulating them from hubby's dry cleaning(*I hate ironing so happily pay someone else to do it. Not so frugal but makes my life way happier) so purged some of those too.

So with things entering the house, things are leaving the house.  As it should be.  Now, we just need to prepare for our garage sale.  Next weekend maybe?

  1. You found some super bargains for things you will use. I agree, when I buy something something leaves the house. I give away the stuff to charity trucks which come right to our house on their routes.

  2. We are frugal in some ways to make other things possible. Good for you with the dry cleaning. I haven't been to a garage sale in years, but the local thrift store is still a mainstay in my shopping. - Margy

    1. I am a regular at the thrift every week, but garage sales sometimes give really low low prices. I need to go to a few more this year!

    1. I went to lots last year but haven't had the time this year so it was nice to go to several in one morning.

  6. It's a amazing the deals you can get on luggage at yard sales. We didn't really get to any this sales weekend. We were busy doing other stuff. We try and stay close to town and there really wasn't much in our area on Friday or Saturday, so we just stayed home.

    1. Sometimes staying home is nice too. No point in driving around if there aren't advertised sales. Cheers!

  7. Great deal on the luggage!! I've been trying NOT to spend but Giant Tiger had some solar lights on sale that I want for out east and you know how 1 thing leads to another :) I'm getting quite a pile of stuff ready to go into the back of the truck.

    1. Before the move is the most difficult time to refrain from buying, you tend to see the greatest deals!

    1. So do I, each year I get a bargain on something completely different. Kind of like treasure hunting.

  9. That is an amazing deal on the luggage! I did not see the logo but if it is embroided you might try a big black permanent marker to cover it up.
I'm looking forward to hitting garage sales myself!

    1. I am thinking I will try and pluck out the logo this weekend. Will share the results when done. It was a great deal - so glad we happened upon them.
