We watched Charlie Brown's Christmas Special last week, and I realized that likely it was only us adults watching it as it is almost 50 years old now and most kids can't relate to it anymore. That is okay, some of us need shows like that to get us into the Christmas spirit. It worked for us. Life has been a wee bit crazy this month and is only getting more crazy from here on out.
I have some news, that I am almost afraid to share here in case it doesn't go through. All I wanted for Christmas this year was for my Mom's house to sell so she could move and be near us as she has an empty condo waiting for her to move into two blocks from our home. That plus my Alberta Mother-in-law's health to get sorted and her into assisted living but that is another story for a later date.
My Mom's old home is two hours away each direction. Well, on Saturday, a real estate offer was made and accepted. Things are moving very quickly as the new owners wish to take possession by December 30th - which might even be moved up by a week if we can get Mom moved out in time. The "conditions of sale" which are the final hurdle in the deal are set to come off Friday. It looks like I am getting my wish!
So this Friday afternoon I am making almost the last trek for two days of mad packing, so she can move in 8 days time - hopefully around the 18th. She is hiring movers but there is still loads to be done to make it all happen so fast. She is stressed but happy as we were just talking last weekend how wouldn't it be nice if she could move by Christmas but that appeared to be a pipe dream.
So, I have decided it is okay if no cookies are baked this month and if my Christmas cards go out late (hopefully this week) and if we leave some shopping to the last minute - which we never normally do. My Mom was originally going to come visit us for Christmas celebration the weekend of the 21st as we are flying out of town for Christmas. Instead she might actually be in her new home and can walk over if she wants to. Life can change at the drop of a hat, for good and for bad. Something to think about this season...
Oh how wonderful if this sale goes off without a hitch in time for Christmas. I'll keep my fingers and toes crossed for y'all!
ReplyDeleteThanks Sluggy!
DeleteThat's wonderful news! Keeping good thoughts for you that the sale goes through!
ReplyDeleteThanks Lili, no matter what life marches on.
DeleteFingers crossed the sale continues to go through smoothly and your mom will soon be walking over to your house for a visit! I'm sure your family and friends will understand if the cookies don't get baked and the cards are a wee bit late.
ReplyDeleteI am praying that everything is alright with you Chy, but thank you for thinking of us.
DeleteWhat wonderful news! Fingers and toes crossed here for a smooth sale :)

It all seems to be going through, almost can't believe it!
DeleteAll I want for Christmas... This is even better than two front teeth!
ReplyDeleteSo much better, although I would like to keep the front teeth too :)
DeleteGreat news! What a great gift for you and your mom. I hope it all goes smoothly.
ReplyDeleteThanks - nothing ever goes smoothly but I feel like if we are all alive and sane by the end of it - then life is good.
DeleteTo hell with everything else - HURRAH for mom! So happy for you :)
ReplyDeleteI feel the same way. I am trying to overlook the dirt lurking in my house as housework is not happening this week at all.
DeleteIsn't it fabulous when a plan comes together?!
ReplyDeleteJane x
Yes, we will be relieved when it is over but it is very good news.
DeleteGreat news! Christmas wishes!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much - to you and your family too.
DeleteI am not fretting at all this year. I've been picking up gifts while thrifting all year long so a lot are covered. That and I give gifts and eat treats throughout the year. Every day is Christmas :D yaaay
ReplyDeleteYou are so funny Van, friends are totally welcome to give me eat treats anytime!
DeleteThat is the best Christmas gift that I have heard of so far! Wonderful!!!!!
ReplyDeleteIt is a very nice gift, who the heck purchases homes right at Christmas, right?
DeleteThat's great news and a wonderful Christmas "present" for both of you!
ReplyDeleteIt is. Hopefully in the New Year things will quiet down a bit. My eyeball started twitching and I was actually thinking of vacuuming just to get my mind off things - what was I thinking!
DeleteThat's so great! I'm happy for you all.
ReplyDeleteWhy don't you save the Christmas Cards for next year and send Happy New Years cards instead? Hopefully by then all the moving will be done. You can do them with your mom, and put her new address in her cards. I did that one year and it was really fun to send them for New Years.
She actually had her cards out Dec 1 but she tucked in her new address just in case. Fortunately I "got er done" today lol
DeleteHaven't Got out my cards this year...Hopeful Tuesday I will.
ReplyDeleteCoffee is on
I figure anyone who gets a card before or after Christmas should just be happy we thought of them.
