Cramming Things In the Freezer

Freighter spotted on September Ferry Ride from Victoria to Port Angeles

Today was 10% off Tuesday at Safeway where if you spend a minimum $35 on the first Tuesday of the month you get 10% off your total bill (or 10x the airmiles but I always take money off over airmiles).  They had a sale on skinless boneless chicken breast for $2.99 a pound so I bought 8kg (17.6 lbs) and got an additional .30 cents off per pound for a total of $2.69 per pound final price.
That is the lowest I can buy chicken breast, even bone in around here and we use a lot of it as are trying to eat heart-healthy.  I only have  a small apartment-sized freezer plus the freezer that is attached to the fridge.  They are both 100% full now as I had to completely empty them to rearrange all the food inside to get it to fit.  It seems I have been stocking up on frozen meat of late and it feels great knowing that all of it was on sale.  I even found some things in there I didn't know we had like shrimp which I thought we were out of.

My Stepdaughter and Stepson are flying out for a few days this weekend (ages 16 and 18) so we will be eating down some of the groceries in the house with large family meals due to their hollow legs at this age.

Today our big treat is BBQ ribs that I bought on sale last month for $5 a rack, fully prepared as they just need to be reheated on the BBQ for some charcoal taste.  We will have that along with leftover rice from last nights dinner and a quick salad.  I think dinner will be ready in 10 minutes tonight - don't you just love when you don't have to spend tons of time in the kitchen?

Now every cent I save by shopping wisely like on 10% Tuesday I mentally equate to something cool to do  like enjoying a glass of wine on our upcoming holiday to Portugal or pancakes in Amsterdam.  Cheers!

  1. Stuufing the freezer with items on sale always make me feel great!

I bought 15 pounds of extra lean ground pork for $1.29 a pound (this pork is soooo good) I wait for that sale every year. I use it in meat pies, meatball stew and other Quebec seasonnal favorites.

    Be well :)

  2. We have a crammed full freezer too. When I open the door, stuff falls out! I've had $5 off $35 coupons the last three weeks but those are up. I do have a $5 off $45 that I'll use next week and some good store coupons to help me buy items that will get me to the limit before they're taken back off. Our supermarket lets you earn gas points and you get ten cents off per gallon for every $10 in coupons you use. Sometimes I make it up to 20 cents off. We are lucky and can get individually packaged chicken breast (12 to pack) for $1.99 per pound. One breast feeds two of us.

    1. Wow, $1.99 for chicken breast! Only a dream here in Canada, groceries are so bloody expensive here.

  3. I love Safeway! We used to have them here but no more. I'm not sure there are ANY left in Texas! I shopped one when I was out in CA last month. We used to but their 'reduced for quick sale' meats.

I forgot about dinner tonight! We are in our camper down at my step son's place. LD is just now coming back from showering and I bet he will come in hungry! HE doesn't forget to eat even if I do!! Maybe a can of soup and a grilled cheese sandwich!

    1. We still have a few although the chain just got bought out by another big chain called Sobeys. The branding is going to remain the same for now as far as they know.

  4. Is the 10% off Tuesday a Canadian deal. I just looked briefly though the sale ad from Safeway and see nothing about it. Next time I go in I'm asking.
Here they have $5 Fridays and usual one can fine some great bargains.
I been using my just for U coupons (on line) and been offered some bargains.
We also have what they call Super one. They have 12 hours sales and item are really marked down.

    Coffee is on

    1. Must be Canada only, might even only be Western Canada as the deals differ from one side of the country to the other. This is about as good as it gets here as there are way more deals/coupon offers in the USA :)
