Resist The Force!
So I was in Target this past weekend buying up some cheap candy for October 31st when I spotted this right next to the Halloween section. You too can have a string of Yoda Christmas lights for $19.99. Yes, he is darn cute and if you have a Star Wars Fan in your home you might be tempted - but resist the temptation!
I was having a discussion with a co-worker this week who hopes to upgrade her dollar store Christmas decorations this year to more valuable ones. She is a very nice girl who will shop second hand for some things, but would never think to buy second hand Christmas items. Listen up people! They are in every thrift store! Many thrifts save their Christmas donations year round and put them out December 1. So if you are short on decorations this year - read about the "No More Christmas Crap Campaign" and save your money for presents for your family! Start checking Freecycle, make some Christmas Crafts and try the Thrifts instead!

This,I think, I like.

I spotted them thinking of buying them for my stepson who just got his first place but then I changed my mind.
DeleteI worked at a dollar store last Christmas and people would pull up in expensive cars with their expensive purses and expensive cell phones...and buy ALL of their Christmas stuff from decorations to stocking stuffers to lights and candy there. Like you said--buy cheap, everyone else is!
ReplyDeleteDollar store decorations used to be kind of crappy but the ones now are really pretty decent.
DeleteWe do very little holiday decorating -- no room to store the stuff in the off season!
ReplyDeleteOur small house has a crawlspace under all 1700 sq foot so I have a space to squirrel away the decorations - but I am desperately trying not to add to them!
DeleteI keep my holiday decorating to a minimum. Mostly because I know that I will have to clean it up and pack it away afterwards.
ReplyDeleteI do a deep house clean the beginning of December when the decorations go up and have a tradition of taking everything down on New Years day.
DeleteWe do very little holiday decorating (like none for Halloween) because we have no extra space (or money) for that stuff. We do though have a few tubs of Christmas decorations so we don't need to buy more (just a tree maybe). As for your co-worker, I think that some of the ornaments at the dollar store look just as nice as the ones in the expensive department stores. Maybe the packaging or the presentation is different, but it's all basically the same stuff made in the same place. And I love Star Wars, but those Yoda lights are pretty darn ugly.
ReplyDeleteI love decorating, my favorite part of Christmas. Absolutely hate the shopping part. I love going to see light displays too. He is so ugly he is almost cute!
DeleteOur thrift stores have seasonal sections all yaer around. You can find some nice things if you are looking. I'm trying to stick to not purchasing anything for Christmas decorations this year. Making new with things I already have or have thrifted. Not sure if Yoda looks right with a Santa hat. Just sayin'.
ReplyDeleteI wish I could find it all year as I am constantly on the lookout for vintage glass balls as I collect them and refuse to pay more than .50 each (yeah, I am a real big spender!)
DeleteI had no idea that they saved their Christmas donations. Brilliant! Anna is coming home soon so maybe we will head out to the Goodwill and check it out.
ReplyDeleteMost do around here, although sometimes you can occasionally find bits of Christmas year round. A great place to find cheap Christmas cards too - if you still send them
DeleteI won't find it hard to resist those lights! We are downsizing our Christmas decorations in preparation for our big move AND I just don't want to go through the usual WEEKEND full of decorating inside and out.
ReplyDeleteI usually spread my decorating over several weekends starting in November with outside lights - but I downsized before we moved too!
