What is Blog Scraping?

My friend over at Corn In My Coffee-Pot had the very unfortunate experience of having her blog "scraped".  What is that?  Someone steals her posts and posts them to another blog as she posts them.  It looks like original content.  Why do they do this?  Likely to make money off of multiple websites.

I have changed how my blog appears so now you have to click on a link "read more" to get to the rest of the post.  This change is supposed to help prevent "scraping" as the bots can only read anything before the "jump break".

After reading her post I decided to do a bit more investigating.  I found the following link to be very helpful in trying to stop people from scraping as well as how to add "jump  breaks" to your blog posts.

Craftiments.com - How to discourage feed scraping

How horrible that you have to protect your blog from being copied!  PS This is the last post of mine that won't have a "jump break", I hope you continue to read.

    1. Thanks Jane - so terrible we have to try and prevent theft of our own diaries.

    1. Some say it helps, some say it doesn't. It can't hurt to try.

  3. I've had loads stolen from my blog and only came across the culprit by accident. I haven't been able to do anything about it other than alert my readers. See here

  4. I wouldn't know if anyone would steal from mine :(

I love the 'read more' on yours. It's like I think oh CC only put a short post on today and then I see that there is loads more to enjoy.

Sorry to hear about your friend's blog.
