Before Nadine became the number one author for a book on Costa Rica she wrote a smart, funny, blog called Happier Than a Billionaire. Hubby and I met them for cocktails two years ago right when her first book came out. Now she has two books, Happier Than a Billionaire: Quitting My Job, Moving to Costa Rica, and Living the Zero Hour Work Week, and Happier Than a Billionaire, The Sequel. Both are available for purchase on Amazon (amazing success story for self-publishing!!)

Well, Nadine and Rob were just interviewed for a TV show called Expats sharing how they sold their worldly possessions five years ago and ran off to Costa Rica for a much healthier, happier life. They now live on $1200 per month, and love every minute of it.
Click on the link below which takes you to Nadine's blog which has the video posted. They inspired us to quit our jobs, start our own company, sell up the big house and move to our own paradise on Vancouver Island. Perhaps they will inspire you too! Happier Than A Billionaire
Thats amazing.. I wish I could do something like that..
ReplyDeletePretty neat, they are very inspiring and the nicest people too!
DeleteWhat a great story! I watched the whole thing. When I saw the big house, I thought uh oh, but then they said they were caretakers...that's pretty much the same thing we're doing!
ReplyDeleteSo glad you watched the clip - they want to build a home but it is so hard when they live in such a lovely home and only pay $150 per month. The owner of the home only comes twice a year and then they go to a suite on the same property. They own that really pretty lot but building takes a really long time too. They have so much freedom renting right now - much like you!
DeleteI would so do that. The best I could get hubs to do was to retire, sell 2/3 of our stuff and scale down to a 2 bedroom 1 bath home in Florida. We are very happy here. I'm going to read her books!
ReplyDeleteFlorida is a pretty fine place to live - I think that qualifies as downsizing to Paradise!
DeleteWe loved Costa Rica when we travelled to there a few years ago.
ReplyDeleteI would love to read the book now! I can see how you have so much in common, having made brave life style choices and now living in beautiful places.
I totally agree with what Rob said about 'things'. Materialism is suffering-totally agree with that Buddhist principle, along with following a middle path of moderation.
I've had a lot of food for thought over the last couple of days and am so glad I'm on my school holiday to digest it and learn from it. Thank you for this wonderful post.
Sft x
The books are both great - she is a very funny writer relating little things that have happened along the way. I highly recommend them! Cheers
DeleteGreat book! I loved every minute of reading it with many laugh out loud moments. Nadine is a very talented writer and I am looking forward to reading "The Sequel"
