Shattered!

It is not often I splurge on something brand new but in the spirit of this new weight loss effort we splashed out for a brand new digital scale on Saturday - using up part of a gift-card that the kids bought me for Mother's day.  $32 including tax from Canadian Tire.  Sunday morning I nudged the scale two inches with my toe so I could weigh myself and it exploded into a thousand pieces.  No, I was not cut, thankfully, nor was my linoleum damaged but I was cheesed off to put it mildly.  How dangerous!  Apparently if tempered glass has any small imperfections it can do this.  Fortunately Canadian Tire responded very impressively and immediately refunded my money no questions asked and as I was concerned (she was equally concerned) for the safety of other customers they pulled every scale off the shelves and will put the word out to their other stores to see if there have been other shipment problems.

We went to Walmart with the cash and for $45.26 (including tax and envirolevy) bought this Weight Watchers scale which so far we really like.  Our old scale was ancient and we both felt not necessarily accurate so it was time to upgrade.  I am aiming for slow long term achievable weight loss by changing our eating habits and working out.  We are giving up bread but still eating pasta and other carbs.  Any breadlike-substances like pizza that enter our gullets must be prepared from scratch so I know what goes into the mix.  We are still allowed muffins but they must be homemade and made with minimal sugar.  We paid $54 each for a 10 use punch pass to the local recreational complex that has quite a good gym and I have been making friends with the treadmill there.
Hubby is flying out tomorrow to Alberta do business for a few days.  I am going to go for a quick visit/de-clutter session to Mom's house and then attempt to clear off my list of 25 things to do  like cleaning the house top to bottom, taking bottles to depot, taking recycling to center and washing the car.

My lilies are blooming in the front yard - I love perennials!  Lots more flowers to come here and in a few weeks a have pink ones that will bloom as well.  Have a great week!

  1. Beautiful lilies!
We have a glass scale that we like. That's crazy what happened with yours. Glad you got a refund and found a nice replacement. Good luck with your weight loss. It's not easy...not easy at all.

    1. I am trying not to be obsessive about losing weight but it is really hard. The first week of giving up bread was the hardest - we are still allowing a small amount of wheat based carbs like pasta and oatmeal but trying to limit it.

  2. Oh wow! I never would have thought that could happen. So maybe my ancient, but all metal scale is not so bad afterall! We once had a drinking glass explode on the table. I'd just filled the glasses with milk for the kids and one of them just exploded.

Your lilies are beautiful. My day lilies are in a bit of shade and haven't begun to bloom quite yet.

    1. Our other scale was metal and the kind you had to set to zero at the bottom - gave us readings that sometimes didn't make any sense.

    1. Thanks - it is hard enough stepping onto a scale without it exploding!

    1. I swept every bit of it up and took it back to them to see how many pieces it broke into - they never saw the photo as I took it for backup just in case. I was so unimpressed :)
