Things Are Growing

The gigantic rhododendron bushes in our back yard that I intended to take out to plant a garden bloomed.  Due to all we have on our plate at the moment with clearing out and selling our Alberta home and then prepping my Mom's home for sale they shall live through this season and all decisions will be on hold with regard to them until next Spring.  I just don't have the energy required to dig them out and figure out what to plant.  They are pretty though!

My cilantro started from seed is doing well on the back patio.  I harvested the first bit last night to go with some rice.
The rosemary and thyme planted last summer is doing well.  It survived outside all winter quite well.  Some of the rosemary will be used in tonights supper as we are having pizza and I chop a little to go into the crust.
The birds around our house are getting nice and plump - this one is waiting for me to finish filling up the feeder.  I was astonished at how much they ate the week we were gone.  Apparently the original three told some friends as we have a constant lineup at the feeder these days.

These are just some of the things I love about Vancouver Island - while other parts of the country are still under snow - things are growing here in paradise!

  3. Mmmm, fresh herbs. Those look wonderful!
You're probably right to wait on moving or digging out the rhodie to plant a garden area, for this year. It always surprises me how quickly spring goes. I have a bunch of planting to get to today while the weather is nice, or it will also be too late for this year.

    1. I know - lol - timing is much different here on the coast. In Alberta you don't plant May and never put annual plants in the ground before May long weekend as it usually frosts/snows until then.

  4. Fresh herbs, one day when I grow a green thumb, I would like to plant some. I love the way many things grow in the spring. I love hearing all the birds sing first thing in the morning.

    1. I have a non-green thumb but hey, sometimes when you plant it it just grows! I try for easy plants myself though.

  5. I miss the rhododendrons but can understand your concerns with their massiveness in gardens. .

    1. I still have some rhodos out front of my house even if I take the big bush out of the backyard. It is not a huge yard and 1/5 is rhodos. On my to do list for next year. This year I think I will plan. I am still going to container garden though and possible sneak some veggies into the back of the flower bed.
