Zero Spend Days

For the first time ever I have decided to start recording ZERO SPEND days. Here are my personal guidelines (yours may be different).
  • Allowed to pay monthly household bills online or by mail.
  • Allowed to use gas in vehicle as long as it does not require going to the gas station.
  • No spending online, in a store, or at a garage sale (no money leaves the purse today)
  • If forced to purchase supplies for business as long as no non-business items are bought it still counts as a no spend day.

So after three days in 2013 two were ZERO SPEND days. I am allowing gas on these days so we can picnic at the beach or go on a photography walk or  hike as 2013 is also the year of FUN!

My  day so far:

I had leftover home-made pizza for breakfast (it was yummy). Had a look at this weeks grocery flyers, cut out a few coupons, am going to dust (breaking out the housework in bits makes it easier), do some business work, and then get ready for a wine and cheese reception we have been invited to this evening. Another ZERO SPEND day!

  2. I did think I could manage 3 no spend days per week (weekdays) but so far this year have managed none/zero/zilch/nada! I think the fact we are on holidays has contributed to this, as we have the time to get out and about. The things we've spent on this week have been out of cash put aside for the period that I did not earn any wages (being casual I don't get paid for holidays) and none of the things have been money wasted (new jeans, tshirts, shoes for hubs, stockpiling groceries, fuel etc) so although I have not had my no spend days, I have not wasted money so I guess I am happy enough with that!

  3. Hi, i am just about to follow you as i have just come across your blog (via Ilonas' blog i think).
I am doing a personal challenge at the moment of only having 1 spend day a week, so 6 zero spend days! Who knows if i'll stick to it, but i am certainly giving it a good try!

  4. Great job on 3 no spend days in a row!! I have no idea if I could do that (J & I have a serious Timmie's vice, LOL!) but you've inspired me to start tracking the days we don't spend anything. Maybe that will help us keep track of how much we can actually save!

    1. I used to have the same Timmie's vice when I was working outside our business. Now that we work from home the kitchen is not so far away so Timmie's is just a treat once in a blue moon

  5. I am committing much of the same. Only items that are necessary like food and meds. My kids really wanted MCDs for lunch one day but we came home and made up a nice meal with leftovers. I am bringing them on board as well.

I will pay more attention to the non-spend days, but I'm not sure if I'll be able to track them. I'll see

  11. Every cabin day is a ZERO SPEND day (there's no place so I guess it isn't fair). Now if I could make my town days ZERO SPEND that would be a good trick. Maybe I shouldn't make shopping lists so often. - Margy
